{"id":327041,"date":"2025-10-23T17:47:17","date_gmt":"2025-10-23T17:47:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/327041\/"},"modified":"2025-10-23T17:47:17","modified_gmt":"2025-10-23T17:47:17","slug":"takehiro-hira-to-receive-thrs-trailblazer-award-at-tokyo-film-fest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/327041\/","title":{"rendered":"Takehiro Hira to Receive THR\u2019s Trailblazer Award at Tokyo Film Fest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tBAFTA- and Emmy-nominated Japanese actor Takehiro Hira, one of the unforgettable leads of FX\u2019s hit historical epic Shogun and Searchlight\u2019s Brendan Fraser-starring drama Rental Family, will receive The Hollywood Reporter\u2019s Trailblazer Award at the upcoming 38th Tokyo <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/international\/\" id=\"auto-tag_international_1\" data-tag=\"international\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International<\/a> Film Festival. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe honor, presented by THR in partnership with the Motion Picture Association, will be given to Hira during a glitzy \u201cAmerican Film Night\u201d celebration at the Roppongi Hills Club on Oct. 28, attended by top executives, filmmakers and stars from both the U.S. and Japanese screen industries. Hira will be just the second Japanese talent ever to receive the distinction, following veteran actor Tadanobu Asano, who was honored at last year\u2019s festival.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tTHR\u2019s Trailblazer Award is given to artists whose careers and creative choices illuminate complex, boundary-crossing stories and help expand representation in global entertainment. Previous international recipients include Jean Smart, David Oyelowo, Eva Longoria, Matt Bomer and America Ferrera.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tHira earned widespread international acclaim last year for his layered performance as the ambitious warlord Ishido Kazunari in Shogun, opposite Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai, receiving an Emmy nomination for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe Tokyo-born actor next stars opposite Fraser in Searchlight\u2019s Japan-set drama Rental Family, directed by Hikari. The film premiered to warm reviews in Toronto and will receive a gala screening at this year\u2019s Tokyo festival. Hira also recently wrapped production on Lionsgate\u2019s Karoshi, co-starring Cynthia Erivo, Teo Yoo and Isabel May, and appeared last year in Guy Maddin\u2019s Rumours \u2014 alongside Cate Blanchett and Alicia Vikander \u2014 which debuted in Cannes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tA familiar face across Japanese film and television, Hira has built a truly global career over the past two decades, moving fluidly between Hollywood, European and Asian projects. His earlier breakthrough came with the Netflix\/BBC series Giri\/Haji (2020), in which he portrayed detective Kenzo Mori, earning a BAFTA TV Award nomination for best lead actor. He will soon reprise his role as Hiroshi Randa in Season 2 of Apple TV+\u2019s popular action series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tOther titles from Hira\u2019s deep and varied r\u00e9sum\u00e9 include Japanese prestige films, such as Masato Harada\u2019s Criminal on the Prosecutor\u2019s Side, Takashi Miike\u2019s Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai, and Yasuo Mikami\u2019s Bushido, as well as big-budget Western titles like Neill Blomkamp\u2019s Gran Turismo, Robert Schwentke\u2019s Snake Eyes and Marvel\u2019s Captain America: Brave New World.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/tokyo-international-film-festival\/\" id=\"auto-tag_tokyo-international-film-festival_1\" data-tag=\"tokyo-international-film-festival\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tokyo International Film Festival<\/a>, Japan\u2019s largest annual celebration of cinema, will kick off in the city\u2019s upscale Ginza district next week, with the MPA and THR\u2019s award party set to be one of the event\u2019s marquee cross-industry occasions.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/wp-content\/themes\/vip\/pmc-hollywoodreporter-2021\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.gif\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/GettyImages-2241451463.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"1466\" width=\"1024\" decoding=\"async\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tTakehiro Hira attends the London Film Festival screening of Rental Family at the Royal Festival Hall on Oct. 16, 2025. The session will be moderated by THR\u2019s Asia bureau chief Patrick Brzeski.
