A construction worker fell to his death Thursday morning in Manhattan at the site of the Gateway Tunnel project on the west side, multiple agencies confirmed. <\/p>\n
Work has since been suspended at the Hudson Yards construction site after the man fell to the bottom of a 60-foot pit, according to FDNY officials. The worker was found at the pit after FDNY crews rushed down stairs to reach the bottom. <\/p>\n
First responders performed CPR before the worker could be hoisted up out of the pit, FDNY Battalion Chief Anthony Romano told media. He was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where he was ultimately pronounced dead. <\/p>\n
At a briefing, the FDNY did not know what led to the person’s deadly fall. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe Gateway Development Commission, Amtrak, and Related Companies extend our profound condolences to the family of the worker who suffered a fatal injury on the Hudson Yards Concrete Casing project today. Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this difficult time,” a joint statement from the three agencies said. <\/p>\n
Councilmember Erik Bottcher said a city investigation would be conducted to “make sure accountability and worker safety remain top priorities.”<\/p>\n
