He had some incredible gifts,\u201d said Isner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst and foremost is his athleticism, and after that is his forehand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe kind of has this legendary forehand; it has more record<\/p>\n<p>The American never beat Nadal, losing all six of their matches, although he did come close on several occasions, losing in a deciding set three times.<\/p>\n<p>In their final encounter at the 2021 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/washington-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Washington Open<\/a>, Sock lost to Nadal in a third-set tiebreaker 6-7 (1-7).<\/p>\n<p>Sock may have struggled against Nadal, but that didn\u2019t stop him from enjoying a successful tennis career.<\/p>\n<p>Jack Sock won the 2017 Paris Masters <\/p>\n<p>The American played his best tennis on the doubles court, winning four Grand Slams.<\/p>\n<p>However, in 2017, Sock made a charge up the singles rankings, in large part thanks to his run at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/paris-masters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paris Masters<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Travelling to France as the 16th seed, Sock battled back from a set href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/atp-finals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ATP Finals<\/a>, where he found himself in a group containing Roger Federer, Alexander Zverev, and Marin Cilic.<\/p>\n<p>Few expected Sock to advance from the group, and he got off to the worst possible start, losing to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/roger-federer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federer<\/a> in straight sets, 4-6, 6-7.<\/p>\n<p>Refusing to go down without a fight, Sock bounced back to beat both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/alexander-zverev\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zverev<\/a> and Cilic in three sets, as he advanced to the semifinals.<\/p>\n<p>There, he met Bulgaria\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/grigor-dimitrov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Grigor Dimitrov<\/a>, who went unbeaten in his group, defeating David Goffin, Dominic Thiem, and Pablo Carreno Busta.<\/p>\n<p>Sock won the first set to move within touching distance of the biggest final of his career, but couldn\u2019t quite finish the job as Dimitrov turned things around to win 4-6, 6-0, 6-3.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"684\" loading=\"lazy\" in the world shortly after. <\/p>\n<p>He was, however, unable to maintain that level, as injuries slowed his progress on the ATP Tour.<\/p>\n<p>Sock never won another title and retired from tennis in 2023, following the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/us-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">US Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The 33-year-old now plays professional pickleball and is
