The combined 49 projects represent more than $2 billion worth of deferred work, adding to over $10 billion in needed repairs and upgrades across the system, according to SEPTA.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUsing capital funds for operations keeps us moving today, but it pushes those critical investments further down the road,\u201d General Manager Scott Sauer said in a statement. \u201cWe stand ready to continue working with leaders in Harrisburg to develop a long-term solution that addresses both our operating needs and the capital investment so critical to our future.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>This comes as SEPTA faces delays on its Regional Rail lines following an <a href=\"https:\/\/billypenn.com\/2025\/10\/02\/ntsb-septa-regional-rail-fires-philly-safety\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emergency order<\/a> from the Federal Railroad Administration after several recent train fires. The agency is temporarily removing <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/septa-regional-rail-delays-inspections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">two or more cars<\/a> from service at a time to complete federally mandated inspections and make safety modifications. According to SEPTA spokesperson Andrew Busch, 82 of the system\u2019s 225 Silverliner IV cars have been inspected so far.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are completing about 8 cars per day,\u201d Busch said in an email. \u201cWe don\u2019t have a set end-date for completion, and we are continuing to discuss our options with the FRA as the October 31 deadline approaches.\u201d\n  <\/p>\n<p>Across the river, <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/nj-transit-bus-fleet-newark\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NJ Transit received the first of 175 new buses<\/a> earlier this month. The remaining vehicles will be delivered by the end of next year as part of an ambitious <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.gov\/governor\/news\/news\/562025\/approved\/20250919c.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">modernization program<\/a> to improve service.\n        <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"SEPTA has already paused 44 planned infrastructure projects to save $1.8 billion.
