{"id":328492,"date":"2025-10-24T06:46:16","date_gmt":"2025-10-24T06:46:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/328492\/"},"modified":"2025-10-24T06:46:16","modified_gmt":"2025-10-24T06:46:16","slug":"original-kiss-members-gene-simmons-paul-stanley-and-peter-criss-have-rare-reunion-at-ace-frehleys-memorial-service","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/328492\/","title":{"rendered":"Original KISS members Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley and Peter Criss have rare reunion at Ace Frehley&#8217;s memorial service"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley and Peter Criss \u2014 all founding members of rock band KISS \u2014 reunited to lay their former bandmate, Ace Frehley, to rest.<\/p>\n<p>The trio came together for a <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2025\/10\/16\/celebrity-news\/ace-frehley-founding-member-of-rock-band-kiss-dead-at-74\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">final farewell to the legendary guitarist<\/a> in the Bronx borough of New York City, the band\u2019s longtime friend Eddie Trunk shared <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DQIR9y5iQJs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">via Instagram<\/a> Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has been an emotional couple of days to say the least (sic) saying farewell to a rock icon and long time friend,\u201d the SiriusXM personality wrote alongside a memorial prayer card that read, \u201cIn Loving Memory of Paul \u2018Ace\u2019 D. Frehley.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>KISS founding members Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley and Peter Criss reunited at Ace Frehley\u2019s funeral.  Redferns<\/p>\n<p>The guitarist was laid to rest in New York, media personality Eddie Trunk shared via Instagram Wednesday. Instagram\/@eddietrunk<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of the services went as well as they could and were attended by a small group of family and close friends, including the 3 surviving original members of @kissonline,\u201d Trunk added.<\/p>\n<p>The last time Criss, 79, Simmons, 76, Stanley, 73, and Frehley all publicly appeared alongside each other was at the 29th annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>The quartet formed KISS in 1973, and have reunited several times throughout the past few decades \u2014 despite Criss departing the band in 1980 due to creative differences and Frehley leaving in 1982. (Frehley rejoined KISS for a reunion tour from 1996-2002.)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has been an emotional couple of days to say the least (sic) saying farewell to a rock icon and long time friend,\u201d the band\u2019s longtime friend wrote on the platform. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Frehley, who kick-started Frehley\u2019s Comet band a few years later, got candid about his rocky relationship with Stanley and Simmons <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guitarplayer.com\/guitarists\/ace-frehley-on-his-kiss-departures\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">during an interview with Guitarist <\/a>earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of the misconceptions were created by Paul and Gene,\u201d he explained. \u201cThey still say in interviews that they fired me, but I was never fired from KISS. I hate when I hear that. And they say that both times I was fired. I quit both times.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the time, the \u201c10,000 Volts\u201d rocker confirmed that he initially parted ways with the band because he wasn\u2019t a fan of the transition from the 1970s to 1980s rock.<\/p>\n<p>Criss, Simmons, Stanley and Frehley last publicly appeared together at the 29th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in 2014. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Frehley and Criss were able to put aside their differences to participate in KISS\u2019 Alive\/Worldwide reunion tour in the late 1990s before once again going their separate ways.<\/p>\n<p>Over the years, Frehley has teamed up with Simmons for several projects, including a 2017 benefit concert for the St. Paul, Minn., and in 2018 at the latter\u2019s \u201cVault experience\u201d\u00a0performance in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p>Frehley and Criss, however, opted out of joining Simmons and Stanley onstage for the group\u2019s final <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2023\/11\/29\/entertainment\/kiss-gears-up-for-final-end-of-the-road-world-tour-shows-with-nyc-takeover-a-complete-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">End of the Road World Tour<\/a> shows at Madison Square Garden in the Big Apple in December 2024.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, Stanley and Simmons mourned his death, telling Page Six that he would \u201calways be a part of KISS\u2019 legacy.\u201d Michael Ochs Archives<\/p>\n<p>Frehley had fallen at his studio before his death. Mark Sullivan<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWant more celebrity and pop culture news?\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"inline-module__cta\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tStart your day with Page Six Daily.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tThanks for signing up!\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Frehley, born Paul Daniel Frehley, <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2025\/10\/16\/celebrity-news\/ace-frehley-founding-member-of-rock-band-kiss-dead-at-74\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">died on Oct.16<\/a> at the age of 74 after he was reportedly <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2025\/10\/16\/celebrity-news\/kiss-guitarist-ace-frehley-on-life-support-after-suffering-brain-bleed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">put on life support.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cDevastated\u201d Stanley and Simmons mourned the fellow rocker via a statement to Page Six, writing, \u201cHe was an essential and irreplaceable rock soldier during some of the most formative foundational chapters of the band and its history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe is and will always be a part of KISS\u2019s legacy,\u201d they continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe is fine, but against his wishes, his doctor insists that he refrain from travel at this time,\u201d a statement written to his Instagram in September read.
