But then JEA closed the intersection of Marianna and Hernando roads to do more work, says\u00a0Jacksonville Today\u00a0reader Michelle N.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cOne of the neighbors supposedly spoke to someone on the job site and they said the pipes they replaced failed,\u201d Michelle says.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b>\u201cI have no clue what the real issue is, so I was hoping you could help me out.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Michelle says neighbors also worry about the duPont YMCA Youth Development Center and Kings Trail Elementary School on Old Kings Road South. Could the pipe work have anything to do with the properties \u201cbeing sold for housing?\u201d she asks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 kNAFkD cuqaEv article-text\"><b>A:<\/b>\u00a0We can clarify the confusion about pipe replacement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The earlier work did not involve JEA. It appears to be a drainage project the city did in the past year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">That work was unrelated to what is happening now \u2014 JEA replacing sanitary sewer lines, manholes and a section of water lines.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">JEA is not replacing pipes that failed, spokesperson Karen McAllister says. It\u2019s maintenance work that is essential to keeping the water and sewer systems working reliably.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Inadequate maintenance can lead to sewer backups, environmental harm and roadway damage, McAllister says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 kNAFkD cuqaEv article-text\">JEA began the work in August and expects to finish by mid-November. More information about the project\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jea.com\/In_Our_Community\/Construction_Projects\/Hernando_Road_Water___Sewer_Improvement_Project\/?searchResult=true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">is available here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">As for the school and YMCA center, changes, indeed, are proposed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 kNAFkD cuqaEv article-text\">The Jacksonville City Council gave approval a year ago for construction of single-family residences or townhomes on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/jaxtoday.org\/2024\/10\/09\/ymca-san-jose-homes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the duPont YMCA Youth Development<\/a>\u00a0property between Toledo Road and Powers Avenue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The YMCA closed the recreation center after the pandemic and is seeking to sell the property. Morgan on the Westside and Susie E. Tolbert in Northwest Jacksonville. The district will consolidate each with neighboring schools that have room for their students.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 kNAFkD cuqaEv article-text\">Neither the school nor the YMCA have changed ownership yet, according to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/paopropertysearch.coj.net\/Basic\/Search.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Duval County Property Appraiser\u2019s website<\/a>.
