Each weekday, catch up on the 5 most pressing stories to start your morning in 3 minutes or less.  <\/p>\n<p><b>Topline:<\/b><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Department of Justice will monitor polling sites in Los Angeles and Orange counties ahead of the <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/laist.com\/news\/politics\/voter-game-plan\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nov. 4 election<\/a> to \u201censure transparency, ballot security, and compliance with federal law.\u201d The announcement on Friday comes a day before vote centers are set to open for polling across California.\n    <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><b>What polling sites will be monitored?<\/b> Federal officials said in a statement that five counties are on the department\u2019s watch list, including Riverside, Fresno, Orange, Los Angeles and Kern.<\/p>\n<p><b>What O.C. officials say<\/b>: Registrar of Voters Bob Page said in a statement that Orange County elections are transparent. \u201cIt is common for us to have local, state, federal, and sometimes international observers, watching how we administer elections that are accessible, accurate, fair, secure, and transparent,\u201d Page said.<\/p>\n<p><b>What L.A. officials say<\/b>: Dean Logan, L.A. County Registrar-Recorder and County Clerk, said in a statement that the presence of election observers is not unusual. \u201cFederal election monitors, like all election observers, are welcome to view election activities at designated locations to confirm transparency and integrity in the election process,\u201d Logan said. \u201cVoters can have confidence their ballot is handled securely and counted accurately.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b>What else to know<\/b>: Starting today and until Election Day, officials from the department\u2019s Civil Rights Division will be available to answer questions and complaints from the public, according to the DOJ.<\/p>\n<p><b>Where to cast your ballot:<\/b> Vote centers across Orange and Los Angeles will open on Saturday and remain open until Election Day.
