The Texas Medical Board\u2019s database lists Lau\u2019s medical license as \u201ccancelled by request\u201d as of early October. Lau is affiliated with both UT Southwestern and Children\u2019s Health in Dallas.<\/p>\n

After Paxton filed the lawsuit against Lau last year, he followed up by suing two more doctors: a second doctor in Dallas and another in El Paso.<\/p>\n
In January, both of the Dallas doctors agreed to stop practicing medicine on patients, in a temporary agreement with Paxton. Months later, Paxton\u2019s office withdrew its lawsuit against the El Paso doctor<\/a> and said that \u201cno legal violations were found\u201d in that case.<\/p>\n The attorney general\u2019s office said at the time that the cases against the two Dallas doctors were ongoing. In the Friday morning release announcing Lau\u2019s license surrender, Paxton\u2019s office reiterated that the legal case against her will continue.<\/p>\n In the suits and related media releases, Paxton has described the three doctors as activists who harmed children.<\/p>\n In contrast, <\/b>LGBTQ+ and civil rights organizations have argued that the gender-affirming care ban<\/a> and its enforcement are harming trans youth<\/a>. Many medical providers and associations have similarly opposed bans<\/a> on gender-affirming care. <\/p>\n Medical standards<\/a> do not typically recommend the full scope of gender-affirming care, such as surgical procedures, for minors. However, medical guidelines do recommend that transgender youth receive gender-affirming care<\/a> such as social transitioning and puberty blockers.<\/p>\n Medical associations such as the American Academy of Pediatrics have also raised concerns about any policies or bans that interfere in the physician-patient relationship, including for gender-affirming care.<\/p>\n
