Fort Worth residents can help shape priorities for next year\u2019s expected $840 million bond package city officials plan to bring before voters in May.<\/p>\n

Fort Worth is hosting town hall meetings in each City Council district throughout October and November to explain what\u2019s likely to be in the bond proposal and receive feedback on what matters most to residents.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The city announced the meetings the week of Oct. 13, less than a week before the first meeting, which happened Oct. 20. City officials initially planned to host the meetings over August and September.<\/p>\n

Municipalities use bond packages \u2014 usually millions to billions of dollars \u2014 to pay for specific projects.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As Fort Worth City Council members planned for the 2026 bond, fixing streets emerged as a top priority<\/a>, with $511.1 million planned for road repairs and improvements.<\/p>\n

The five other propositions of the bond, which residents will vote on separately, likely will include $185 million for parks and open space; about $64 million for public safety; and $5 million to affordable housing \u2014 the city\u2019s first-ever housing proposition<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Such bond elections allow voters to decide whether local government entities may borrow money in exchange for interest payments plus the eventual repayment of the original borrowed amount. They do not affect property taxes or how the city spends tax revenue.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Using the 2026 bond story map<\/a>, residents can explore information about proposed projects. An interactive budgeting simulation<\/a> allows users to allocate proposed bond funding across project categories, getting automatic feedback about their choices and project prioritization.<\/p>\n

During the town halls, Fort Worth staff will discuss the potential creation of a street maintenance fee, which the city is currently studying<\/a>. Attendees can also learn about other city initiatives, including the 2050 comprehensive plan, aquatics master plan, master transportation plan and stormwater strategies.<\/p>\n
