{"id":330087,"date":"2025-10-24T21:54:11","date_gmt":"2025-10-24T21:54:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/330087\/"},"modified":"2025-10-24T21:54:11","modified_gmt":"2025-10-24T21:54:11","slug":"phoenix-police-want-input-on-new-youth-interactions-policy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/330087\/","title":{"rendered":"Phoenix police want input on new youth interactions policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PHOENIX \u2014 Those who want to influence how the Phoenix Police Department interacts with young people have a rare opportunity to weigh in.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, the department announced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.phoenix.gov\/newsroom\/police-department-news\/phoenix-police-seeks-public-input-on-new-youth-interactions-poli.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">it is seeking public feedback<\/a> on a new Youth Interactions Policy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/public.powerdms.com\/PhoenixPD\/tree\/documents\/3200582\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">The proposed policy<\/a>, released for review, outlines how officers should be respectful and supportive when engaging with young people.<\/p>\n<p>It has not been finalized because the department hopes to incorporate community perspectives during a 30-day comment period.<\/p>\n<p>Through Saturday, Nov. 22, the public is encouraged to review the policy and share input.<\/p>\n<p>How to provide input on new youth interactions policy for Phoenix police<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the six-page document, a blue button labeled \u201cClick here to provide feedback\u201d links to a <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.office.com\/Pages\/ResponsePage.aspx?id=XGm5lg5PvUKK37p1V2A0a9ndF1qrpvBIq3OFDibOq6pUQTVLOVhEMzc1RkRYTklSNzU1WVBRTlVYUS4u\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Microsoft Forms survey<\/a> that asks respondents to review specific sections and indicate whether the policy, as written:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Appropriately guides officers<\/li>\n<li>Is clearly written and comprehensive<\/li>\n<li>Sets appropriate limits on what officers should and should not do<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A Spanish version of the policy and the input form is also available.<\/p>\n<p>Phoenix police ask for input after DOJ report points to potential juvenile rights violations<\/p>\n<p>The request for public input comes over a year after the U.S. Department of Justice, under former President Joe Biden, identified a pattern of civil rights abuses the Phoenix Police Department perpetuated against various demographics, from unhoused people to minors.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/crt\/media\/1355866\/dl?inline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">The report said<\/a> the department used \u201cproblematic tactics and unlawful conduct\u201d that hurt children\u2019s physical and mental well-being, contributing to diminished academic performance, higher levels of depression and post-traumatic stress.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>During encounters with children over minor issues\u2014sometimes where no crime has been committed\u2014PhxPD officers escalate situations with combative language and needless force.
