{"id":33044,"date":"2025-07-02T16:40:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-02T16:40:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/33044\/"},"modified":"2025-07-02T16:40:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-02T16:40:09","slug":"negotiations-between-dc-33-philadelphia-to-resume-as-strike-enters-day-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/33044\/","title":{"rendered":"Negotiations between DC 33, Philadelphia to resume as strike enters Day 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Negotiations are back on between AFSCME District Council 33, Philadelphia&#8217;s largest blue-collar union, and the Parker administration as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/philadelphia\/news\/trash-strike-philadelphia-district-council-33\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">city workers&#8217; strike<\/a>\u00a0enters its second day Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>DC 33 told CBS News Philadelphia the union and Mayor Cherelle Parker&#8217;s administration will return to the negotiating table on Wednesday, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/philadelphia\/news\/philly-sanitation-strike-trash-pickup\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">trash is already piling up<\/a> and frustration grows during the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/philadelphia\/news\/dc33-philadelphia-strike-negotiations\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">biggest walkout in the city in nearly four decades<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Hopefully, they understand and they&#8217;re empathic to our situation,&#8221; DC 33 President Greg Boulware said, &#8220;and they understand that we&#8217;re just asking them to side with us and show a sign of solidarity with us that our members have shown to Philadelphia for many, many years.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/strike.jpg#.jpeg\" alt=\"strike.jpg \" height=\"349\" width=\"620\" class=\" lazyload\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>                CBS News Philadelphia<\/p>\n<p>The union represents about 9,000 workers in essential services, including sanitation, in Philadelphia. Union leaders are fighting for higher wages \u2014 the union is seeking an 8% pay increase \u2014 and health care benefits for all members.<\/p>\n<p>Parker and city officials claimed they&#8217;ve already offered DC 33 a 7% to 8% raise over four years.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday night, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/philadelphia\/news\/philadelphia-strike-911-dispatchers\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">judge ordered over 200 employees<\/a>, including police dispatchers and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/philadelphia\/news\/philadelphia-strike-water-bill-department-impacts\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Water Department staff<\/a>, to return to work amid the strike. The judge said the strike poses a serious risk to public health.<\/p>\n<p>Approximately 200 Philadelphia Police Department officers have been taken off the streets to assist with answering 911 calls.<\/p>\n<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/trash.jpg#.jpeg\" alt=\"trash.jpg \" height=\"349\" width=\"620\" class=\" lazyload\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>                CBS News Philadelphia<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, the mayor asked Philadelphia residents to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/philadelphia\/news\/philadelphia-dc-33-strike-trash-pickup\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">refrain from placing trash and recycling cans<\/a>\u00a0at the curb starting Tuesday. The city established<a href=\"https:\/\/www.phila.gov\/departments\/department-of-sanitation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> 63 temporary drop-off locations<\/a> for residents to dispose of their trash.<\/p>\n<p>At one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DLmpAjsN8wk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">drop-off locations at 18th and Catharine streets<\/a>, crews were spotted Wednesday morning loading garbage from the sidewalk and dumpster into a truck. Throughout the morning, people have been dumping their trash.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Not everybody has a vehicle in Philadelphia. There are people who rely on public transportation. That&#8217;s going to back up the whole street,&#8221; Vu Lamb, who lives in Southwest Center City, said. &#8220;Right now, I&#8217;m seeing in my neighborhood, it&#8217;s piling up already.
