MESA, AZ (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 It\u2019s not a fancy course, but Chris Satterlee is proud of what he\u2019s building at Stripe Show Golf Club in Mesa.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re just trying to get people out here having fun,\u201d Satterlee said. \u201cWe\u2019re just hoping to continue to grow.\u201d<\/p>\n
Stripe Show is a 9-hole course with a driving range. The next step was to add a state-of-the-art mobile golf simulator. But what seemed like a sure shot hit a hazard when Satterlee hired Sun Devil Trailer Manufacturing, also known as Sun Devil Trailers.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe found a guy who does custom builds,\u201d Satterlee said. \u201cWell, here we are 17 months later with a half-finished trailer and $50,000 of missing parts and materials.\u201d<\/p>\n
Missing components delay business expansion<\/p>\n
The missing parts include a motorized slide-out worth about $30,000, leveling jacks, lighting and motorized components. \u201cBasically, everything to make it functional other than just wheels and a box,\u201d Satterlee said.<\/p>\n
Throughout the delays, Satterlee said the company gave him repeated assurances.<\/p>\n
\u201cOh, I\u2019m going to get to it. It\u2019s coming. The parts are coming. I want to make sure I do it right. Same old thing. Just on and on and on for months,\u201d Satterlee said. \u201cYou try to believe him, but it gets to a point where nothing\u2019s happened.\u201d<\/p>\n
Financial impact on small business<\/p>\n
The loss has significantly impacted Stripe Show Golf Club\u2019s operations and revenue potential.<\/p>\n
\u201cOh, it\u2019s major. Not only time but money. And we were hoping to have this running months ago, so now we\u2019re a loss of revenue,\u201d Satterlee said.<\/p>\n
Satterlee questions whether Sun Devil Trailers ever purchased the missing components.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo, I don\u2019t think so because I\u2019ve asked him multiple times to see receipts or even to take me. He said, \u2018Oh it\u2019s at my house.\u2019 I said, \u2018Okay, take me to let me see it.\u2019 And it\u2019s just excuse after excuse,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Company background raises concerns<\/p>\n
Court records show two judgments against Sun Devil Trailer Manufacturing for failing to pay employees last year. The Better Business Bureau has given the company an F rating, and online customer reviews are mixed.<\/p>\n
Chris at Sun Devil Trailers told On Your Side there had been several change orders that made the Stripe Show project challenging, but promised to make things right. However, weeks passed without any materials being delivered or a refund being issued.<\/p>\n
Satterlee eventually retrieved the trailer shell and took it to another shop for completion.<\/p>\n
Sun Devil Trailers declined an on-camera interview. On Thursday morning, the company attempted to deliver a few used parts to the golf course that Satterlee had not ordered. He declined the delivery.<\/p>\n
Despite the setbacks, Satterlee remains hopeful. \u201cWe have a really good community that supports us. They know what we\u2019re trying to do,\u201d he said. \u201cHopefully, one day we can get it completed.\u201d<\/p>\n
