{"id":330913,"date":"2025-10-25T06:07:11","date_gmt":"2025-10-25T06:07:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/330913\/"},"modified":"2025-10-25T06:07:11","modified_gmt":"2025-10-25T06:07:11","slug":"nfl-sends-memo-to-players-in-wake-of-nba-gambling-scandal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/330913\/","title":{"rendered":"NFL sends memo to players in wake of NBA gambling scandal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The NFL is reminding all its players to be extra careful.<\/p>\n<p>Following the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/24\/sports\/anfernee-simons-in-shock-after-chauncey-billups-arrested\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bombshell NBA news on Thursday<\/a> when the FBI revealed two massive indictments that <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/23\/sports\/portland-trail-blazers-coach-chauncey-billups-arrested-in-alleged-poker-scheme\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">allege illegal sports betting and gambling<\/a> from both players and coaches and led to the arrest of 31 people in total, the NFL has taken action of its own.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, the NFL sent a memo to its 32 teams, reinforcing players, coaches, staff, and league and club personnel to adhere to the NFL\u2019s gambling policy.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">In light of this week\u2019s two federal indictments relating to illegal gambling conspiracies involving NBA players and coaches, the NFL sent clubs memos today to reinforce and remind all players and league and club personnel of the need to adhere strictly to the NFL Gambling Policy.\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/UJrKqY9ZV4\">pic.twitter.com\/UJrKqY9ZV4<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AdamSchefter\/status\/1981810164337455525?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">October 24, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>After talking about the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/23\/sports\/portland-trail-blazers-coach-chauncey-billups-arrested-in-alleged-poker-scheme\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201chistoric\u201d busts that have overshadowed<\/a> the start of the NBA season, the NFL reiterated its policy on gambling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNFL players must not: (1) Place any bet on NFL Football. (2) Throw or fix any NFL game or event of otherwise manipulate or attempt to manipulate any play or other aspect of an NFL game. AP<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday morning, Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups, Heat guard Terry Rozier and ex-Cavaliers player and assistant coach Damon Jones <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/23\/sports\/portland-trail-blazers-coach-chauncey-billups-arrested-in-alleged-poker-scheme\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">were among 31 people arrested<\/a> as part of an investigation involving 11 states and millions of dollars.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Rozier has been accused of illegal sports betting, with the FBI pointing to a game in March 2023 where the 31-year-old allegedly tipped off friends that he would exit the early game with an injury. The act led to people placing\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/23\/sports\/the-alleged-200000-tip-to-mob-that-led-to-arrest-of-terry-rozier\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$200,000 wagers on the Unders<\/a>\u00a0for his prop bets, the FBI said.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>In a separate scheme, Billups has been accused of being a part of a purported Mafia-linked underground poker ring that <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/23\/sports\/how-chauncey-billups-allegedly-served-as-face-card-in-illegal-gambling-ring\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lured victims into alleged rigged games<\/a>. AP<\/p>\n<p>The NFL has had sports gambling-related scandals of its own in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>Wide receiver Calvin Ridley <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/03\/07\/nfl-suspends-falcons-calvin-ridley-for-betting-on-games\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was suspended for the entire 2022 season<\/a> for gambling on multiple NFL games the year prior, during the time he was away from the Falcons to address mental health concerns.<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/06\/20\/nfl-reinforcing-gambling-policy-to-players-after-suspensions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">multiple players were suspended<\/a>. Five of them \u2014\u00a0Quintez Cephus,\u00a0C.J.
