Bayern Munich officially gave Vincent Kompany a contract extension that will now keep him at the club through 2029 after the German Rekordmeister have enjoyed a fantastic start to this season across all competitions. They\u2019ve yet (at the time of writing) to lose a match and look well on their way to competing for a potential treble so long as they\u2019re able to keep playing the way they\u2019ve been playing thus far.<\/p>\n
Prior to the extension, Kompany\u2019s contract at Bayern was set to run through 2027 when he took over for Thomas Tuchel after a tenure with Burnley in both the Premier League and English Football League. After accumulating a record of 49 wins, 9 draws and 9 losses since he\u2019s been Bayern manager, the front office, executive board and supervisory board all felt it was the right time to put pen to paper on a two-year extension.<\/p>\n
While the timing of Kompany\u2019s extension shouldn\u2019t come as too much of a surprise with how well the season has started, the Belgian manager revealed that he wanted to keep things as low key as possible as to not cause too much of a distraction. \u201cI didn\u2019t really think about the timing; I was too busy preparing for the games. Then the proposal came up, and my only request was that it doesn\u2019t become a big topic and that we could quickly refocus on the next game. It probably surprised you [journalists] more than me. It was important to me that there were no big discussions, no speculation, just a quick and clear answer,\u201d he explained in the press conference ahead of the Champions League clash against Club Brugge (via @iMiaSanMia)<\/a>.<\/p>\n At Bayern, and in Munich in general, Kompany is incredibly happy, and his family is as well. The positive atmosphere he\u2019s brought to S\u00e4bener Stra\u00dfe has been infectious and it\u2019s shown in the way Bayern has been playing, even when results didn\u2019t go their way in certain phases of last season when injuries were piling up. \u201cPersonally, everything is just right in Munich; it\u2019s not difficult to feel comfortable here with your family. That all helped. But my working environment is also very healthy \u2013 and I wanted to maintain that calmness. When I arrive in the morning and have to do my job, I still have a good working environment, even after defeats. There aren\u2019t many better places than Bayern Munich,\u201d he enthused (via @iMiaSanMia<\/a>).<\/p>\n When he was announced as Tuchel\u2019s eventual successor at Bayern, Kompany was met with a plethora of question marks asking if he was ready for such a big managerial job, taking a massive step up from Anderlecht and Burnley.
