{"id":331033,"date":"2025-10-25T07:22:14","date_gmt":"2025-10-25T07:22:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/331033\/"},"modified":"2025-10-25T07:22:14","modified_gmt":"2025-10-25T07:22:14","slug":"brennan-othmanns-recall-from-ahl-could-serve-dual-purpose-for-rangers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/331033\/","title":{"rendered":"Brennan Othmann&#8217;s recall from AHL could serve dual purpose for Rangers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brennan Othmann is the first Rangers forward prospect to get the call from Hartford this season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Blueshirts made the recall on the heels of Matt Rempe exiting in the first period of Thursday night\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/23\/sports\/rangers-fall-to-sharks-in-overtime-to-remain-winless-at-msg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">6-5 overtime loss to the Sharks<\/a>, after the 6-foot-9 wing <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/23\/sports\/rangers-matt-rempe-exits-after-fighting-sharks-ryan-reaves\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">challenged veteran enforcer Ryan Reaves<\/a> to a fight for running Juuso Parssinen.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unclear if bringing up Othmann is just precautionary, as the Rangers head on the road for four games in Calgary, Vancouver, Edmonton, and Seattle. Rempe absorbed a couple of big blows, landed a few of his own and then immediately headed to the locker room.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Head coach Mike Sullivan said Rempe was still being evaluated for an upper-body injury after the game.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If Rempe is going to miss time, this could be a major opportunity for the 22-year-old Othmann.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Brennan Othmann in action during the game against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Madison Square Garden on March 20, 2025, in New York City. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/30\/sports\/brennan-othmanns-quick-exit-from-rangers-camp-not-an-encouraging-sign\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rangers cut Othmann from training camp<\/a> well before the likes of fellow top prospects Noah Laba, Brett Berard and Gabe Perreault. It was an underwhelming preseason for the No. 16 pick in the 2021 draft, who hasn\u2019t quite found his footing on the NHL stage yet.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While the Rangers were in Toronto \u2014 in Othmann\u2019s home province of Ontario \u2014 Sportsnet\u2019s Elliotte Friedman reported the young wing was drawing interest around the NHL. The Rangers are seeking promising prospects in return, Friedman added on Friday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There is belief that a change of scenery would be beneficial for Othmann. JASON SZENES\/ NY POST<\/p>\n<p>Whether or not Rempe traveled with the Rangers to Calgary will presumably be revealed when the team practices at Scotiabank Saddledome on Saturday. And I think that became a big part of my game. JASON SZENES\/ NY POST<\/p>\n<p>Before splitting up the line of Rempe, Sam Carrick and Adam Edstrom on Thursday, Sullivan gave the unit more regular shifts than ex-head coach Peter Laviolette ever did. Some nights, usually when they were buzzing and creating offense, the trio received third-line minutes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Logging as high as 13:47 this season (9:48 average per game), Rempe said he\u2019s more in the flow of the game with the extra ice time, as well as more confident. He noted that he\u2019s learned a lot every contest, in addition to feeling more in control of his hits.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After filling a notable role on the power play with the Western Hockey League\u2019s Seattle Thunderbirds earlier in his career, Rempe is getting his first chance in the NHL at the net front of the Rangers second unit.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s pretty cool,\u201d Rempe said of earning the coaching staff\u2019s trust. \u201cThat was my goal coming in. New coaching staff you want to, like, that\u2019s exciting. That\u2019s a little nervous, as well, because, you know, [I\u2019m a] young guy still. I think it\u2019s gone really well so far, still lots to do better and grow on. But I like where my games at now.
