\n\tFoo Fighters<\/a> marked the band\u2019s 30th anniversary with the release of \u201cToday\u2019s Song,\u201d the group\u2019s first new song since the 2023 album But Here We Are.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a lengthy note to accompany the release, Dave Grohl<\/a> pays tribute to former band members including the recently fired <\/a>drummer Josh Freese, founding drummer William Goldsmith, guitarist Franz Stahl and, most poignantly, the late drummer Taylor Hawkins, who died<\/a> in 2022.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a portion of the letter<\/a> addressed to Hawkins, Grohl, who apparently plays drums on the new song, writes, \u201cYour name is spoken every day, sometimes with tears, sometimes with a smile, but you are still in everything we do, everywhere we go, forever. The enormity of your beautiful soul is only rivaled by the infinite longing we feel in your absence. We all miss you beyond words. Foo Fighters will forever include Taylor Hawkins in every note that we play, until we do finally reach our destination.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe new song, described in a press release as the band\u2019s \u201copening salvo of its next chapter,\u201d arrives 30 years since the release of Foo Fighters self-titled debut album and is the first new music since Grohl announced last year that he had fathered a daughter outside of his marriage and asked for his family for forgiveness.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cOver the years, we\u2019ve had moments of unbridled joy, and moments of devastating heartbreak,\u201d Grohl writes. \u201cMoments of beautiful victory, and moments of painful defeat,\u201d he wrote. \u201cWe have mended broken bones and broken hearts. But we have followed this road together, with each other, for each other, no matter what. Because in life, you just can\u2019t go it alone.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt should go without saying that without the boundless energy of William Goldsmith, the seasoned wisdom of Franz Stahl, and the thunderous wizardry of Josh Freese, this story would be incomplete, so we extend our heartfelt gratitude for the time, music, and memories that we shared with each of them over the years. Thank you, gentlemen.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe band\u2019s current line-up includes Grohl (vocals and guitar),\u00a0Rami Jaffee\u00a0(keyboard),\u00a0Nate Mendel\u00a0(bass),\u00a0Chris Shiflett\u00a0(guitar) and Pat Smear\u00a0(guitar). A new drummer has not been announced.<\/p>\n
