The NFL and its players association dropped a $315,000 hammer on the Giants, head coach Brian Daboll and rookie Cam Skattebo for \u201cconduct determinantal to the league.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Giants were fined $200,000, Daboll was fined $100,000 and Skattebo was fined $15,000 for their roles in violating the league-mandated concussion protocol during quarterback Jaxson Dart\u2019s sideline examination <\/a>during an Oct. 9 game against the Eagles.<\/p>\n

The investigation determined that Daboll peeking into the tent to speak to Dart and that Skattebo entering the tent \u201chad no actual impact on the exam or the care that Mr. Dart received,\u201d but \u201ctheir conduct was inconsistent with and demonstrated a disregard for the concussion protocol\u2019s requirements and therefore constitute a violation,\u201d the NFL and NFLPA said in a joint statement.<\/p>\n

It is against the policy for anyone other than \u201cmedical personnel deemed essential to the care of the athlete\u201d to be present during a concussion examination.<\/p>\n

So, in the end, the optics of a head coach exerting influence over the medical staff were too bad to allow because of \u201ccreating the perception that they were interfering with Dart\u2019s exam.\u201d <\/p>\n

Daboll said he apologized after the game<\/a> for screaming at Dr. Scott Rodeo, the Giants team physician, on the sideline.<\/p>\n

The NFL and NFLPA reviewed the relevant reports<\/a> and video and jointly interviewed members of the Giants medical staff, independent medical providers including the independent neurotrauma consultant stationed on the sideline, coaches and players. <\/p>\n

It was determined that the Giants medical staff and the independent providers adhered to the proper steps of the concussion protocol.<\/p>\n

The Giants and Daboll had no comment in response to the fines, but owner John Mara \u2014 a member of the NFL\u2019s health and safety committee \u2014 already condemned Daboll\u2019s actions while saying he believed the head coach\u2019s defense that his intent was just to check on Dart and not to rush him back onto the field.<\/p>\n

Cam Skattebo was among those fined for entering the medical tent as Jaxson Dart was examined for a potential concussion. Prime Video<\/p>\n

\u201cThe parties also noted that the Giants undertook immediate remedial steps to prevent any similar violation in the future\u201d the statement said, \u201cincluding by cooperating fully with the joint review, conducting additional training with club staff and players about proper use of the medical tent and taking additional steps to ensure that only permitted individuals are able to enter the medical tent during a concussion evaluation.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

It is not clear what those \u201cadditional steps\u201d constitute.<\/p>\n

Skattebo\u2019s rookie salary is $840,000. He previously said he went into the tent to calm down Dart, who was upset to be missing a crucial part of the game.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t really have any comments,\u201d Skattebo said. \u201cI\u2019m just glad Jaxson is healthy.
