It is unclear when there will be a resolution. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-betting \">\u201cWe\u2019re in support of removing any types of bets, props or otherwise, that could create issues for our guys on the field,\u201d Clark said Friday prior to Game 1 of the World Series at Rogers Centre. \u201cAs you just highlighted, we\u2019ve heard about prop bets of late, and it was one of the things that we were concerned about from Day 1 as well.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-betting \">Ortiz was flagged by a betting integrity monitor after an unusual amount of money was wagered on microbets related to the first pitch of an inning on two separate occasions in June. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-betting \">Gambling regulators in Ohio are seeking to prohibit sportsbooks from offering some microbets, including MLB first-pitch markets. According to ESPN, the ban proposal would be on specific events within games that are completely controlled by one player. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-betting \">MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said at the All-Star Game, \u201cThere are certain types of bets that strike me as unnecessary and particularly vulnerable. Do we really need that last kind of bet?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-betting \">Last June, Padres infielder Tucupita Marcano was banned from the sport for life for betting on his team\u2019s games while on the injured list. Umpire Pat Hoberg was fired by MLB during the offseason for sharing sports betting accounts with a professional poker player who bet on baseball. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-betting \">The NBA is also dealing with a federal betting probe related to Heat guard Terry Rozier and prop wagers. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-betting \">\u201cEvery time there\u2019s a situation that arises related to gambling, the concern doesn\u2019t lessen,\u201d Clark said. \u201cIt gets greater.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-betting \">The MLBPA does have non-exclusive sportsbook licensing agreements with FanDuel and ESPN Bet, which their membership benefits from financially. This despite several players reporting threats they have received via social media from anger gamblers when their bets don\u2019t cash. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph sections-betting \">\u201cWe balance the two,\u201d Clark said. \u201cAt the point in time that player safety is a concern across the board, such that we\u2019re not able to protect our players, then the conversation I would anticipate having with our own guys is, \u2018What do we want to do about that? And what does that mean, in the grand scheme of things?\u2019 We haven\u2019t reached that point yet.
