PHOENIX \u2014 A driver was arrested in connection with a fatal vehicle-pedestrian collision in Phoenix early Monday, authorities said.<\/p>\n

Deanna Shugart, 45, was processed for DUI and booked for narcotics violations after the crash, according to the Phoenix Police Department.<\/p>\n

Pierson Street, south of Camelback Road, around 2:15 a.m.<\/p>\n

They found the victim, 24-year-old Bilgee Elamin, lying in the roadway.<\/p>\n

Shugart, who was driving the minivan that struck Elamin, stayed on the scene and showed signs of impairment during evaluation, police said.<\/p>\n

Elamin died from her injuries the next day.<\/p>\n

\u201cPreliminary information suggests the minivan was heading northbound on 27th Avenue when it collided with Elamin, who was crossing 27th Avenue outside of any crosswalk,\u201d Sgt. Phil Krynsky said in a media advisory.<\/p>\n

The investigation is ongoing.<\/p>\n
