But after pocketing the dough, rather than investing it in her children, she reinvested the funds in online\u00a0betting.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI spent most of it back on gambling websites,\u201d she confessed to over 73,000 TikTok viewers. \u201cI probably spent about \u00a31,000 ($1,360) in a day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, Walker isn\u2019t alone in her affinity for playing the odds.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Gambling addition has become increasingly common in recent year.  Tomasz Zajda \u2013 stock.adobe.com<\/p>\n<p>Gambling addiction is on the rise worldwide \u2014 especially in the US, owing to the legalization of sports betting, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/02\/18\/sports\/gambling-addiction-soaring-since-legalization-of-sports-betting-in-most-us-states\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to recent data<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Researchers have found that Americans now<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/05\/25\/opinion\/online-gambling-is-engineered-addiction-how-to-rein-it-in\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> gamble roughly $1 billion a day<\/a> on state-sanctioned apps like DraftKings and FanDuel.\u00a0And in the UK, where online gambling has been legal for longer and better data exist, 5% of users account for 86% of the betting industry\u2019s profits, and gamblers from the poorest areas are overrepresented among the biggest losers.<\/p>\n<p>Walker, although a winner on the games, says the losses weren\u2019t worth the risk.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI regret it,\u201d she lamented online. \u201cI was spending less time with my children because I was always on my phone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>People like Walker can easily become addicted to gambling, and find themselves in major debt,  Prostock-studio \u2013 stock.adobe.com<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was constantly just trying to get that next win, trying to win it all back so that I didn\u2019t lose everything,\u201d said Walker, adding that she should have used her winnings to take her brood on vacation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I didn\u2019t,\u201d she groaned. \u201cI was selfish and I spent it. And I will always reverse that, and I will already regret the time that I lost being able to take part in my kids playing and stuff because I\u2019m too busy gambling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The addiction hasn\u2019t just destroyed her connection with the kiddos.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s put a wedge in my relationship,\u201d Walker admitted of the now-troubled romance with her boyfriend. \u201cI never have any money.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe has to always [pay] for me and the children to survive for the month,\u201d she continued. \u201cAnd it\u2019s awful.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Walker admits to lying to everyone in her life in order to support her gambling addiction. It\u2019s like something taken over you and you have to gamble,\u201d she explained. \u201cYou might not have any money, you don\u2019t care where you\u2019re getting the money from.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019ll lie to your family and friends just to get that money.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, she\u2019s on the road to recovery.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve gotten to the stage now where I\u2019m wanting to change and wanting to get better,\u201d the addict declared. \u201cAlthough it might be really difficult at times, and there are going to be days where I\u2019m not going to be able to get through it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She plans to rely on her family for support, and has resolved to commit to a strict budget that will be meticulously overseen by her partner and parents.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I feel like I need to gamble, then I\u2019ll have to be open and explain the urges,\u201d Walker said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI need to do it.
