Alberta\u2019s\u00a0premier\u00a0says she hopes the legislation her government tables on Monday\u00a0to\u00a0force striking teachers back\u00a0to\u00a0work isn\u2019t followed by broader\u00a0labour\u00a0action.<\/p>\n

Danielle Smith\u2019s comments on her call-in radio show come at the heels of a\u00a0threat\u00a0of unprecedented mobilization by the\u00a0Alberta\u00a0Federation of\u00a0Labour\u00a0if the government doesn\u2019t rule out the use of the notwithstanding clause in its dealings with teachers.<\/p>\n

The federation, which represents more than 350,000 workers, says the clause will make a mockery of the constitutional right\u00a0to\u00a0strike and escalate the contract dispute between the government and teachers.<\/p>\n

When asked about the\u00a0threat\u00a0on her call-in radio show, Smith didn\u2019t rule out the use of the clause and said teachers will have\u00a0to\u00a0be ordered back\u00a0to\u00a0work if they don\u2019t voluntarily agree\u00a0to\u00a0it.<\/p>\n
