Lily Allen\u2019s latest album, \u201cWest End Girl,\u201d is largely focused on the end of her four-year marriage to David Harbour. Though the \u201cStranger Things\u201d star has yet to address any of her accusations, Allen has made her case: she and Harbour had an open marriage, and the actor still violated a lot of their rules.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are usually agreed-upon boundaries in relationships,\u201d she told The Times <\/a>in an interview published Saturday. \u201cBut whether those boundaries are adhered to or not is becoming a grey area all of a sudden. Dating apps make people disposable and that leads to the idea that if you are not happy, there\u2019s so much more to choose from \u2014 right in your pocket.\u201d<\/p>\n

The pair met in 2019 and married in 2020, and the singer moved herself and her daughters to New York. <\/p>\n

On the record Allen sings of \u201chaving an arrangement\u201d with Harbour to \u201cbe discreet\u201d and that extramarital relationships had to be with strangers in the song \u201cTennis,\u201d which is about seeing a notification from someone named Madeline on her ex-husband\u2019s phone.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just feel we are living in really interesting times \u2014 in terms of how we define intimacy and monogamy, people being disposable or not,\u201d she continued. \u201cThe way we are being intimate with each other is changing as humans \u2026 Lots of young women are not finding the idea of marriage or even a long-term relationship that attractive any more.\u201d<\/p>\n

But she\u2019s also quick to say that this might not be a negative thing. \u201cLots of people from my parents\u2019 generation stayed together for ever and were miserable. You didn\u2019t have endless choice so you may have worked at something harder. But now you don\u2019t have to,\u201d Allen added. <\/p>\n

Despite being in such a public relationship, she also said \u201cnobody knew what was going on in my life\u201d during recording, and \u201cI got into the studio, cried for two hours and then said, \u2018Let\u2019s make some music.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Allen ultimately stops short of saying everything on the album is fact. \u201cI don\u2019t think I could say it\u2019s all true \u2014 I have artistic licence,\u201d she told the outlet. \u201cBut yes, there are definitely things I experienced within my relationship that have ended up on this album.\u201d<\/p>\n
