Vice President JD Vance skewered Big Apple mayoral frontrunner\u00a0Zohran Mamdani after the lefty-pol\u00a0delivered a teary speech<\/a>\u00a0about his Muslim aunt\u2019s fear in the days following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAccording to Zohran the real victim of 9\/11 was his auntie who got some (allegedly) bad looks,\u201d Vance\u00a0wrote Saturday morning on X<\/a>, sharing a clip of the socialist candidate choking back tears as he recalled the anti-Muslim bias his family experienced in the aftermath of 9\/11.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mamdani \u2013\u00a0who beamed in a photo with an unindicted co-conspirator from the 1993 World Trade Center bombing<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 vowed on Friday to champion the Big Apple\u2019s Muslim community after sharing that his frightened late aunt stopped riding the subway at the time, saying she \u201cdid not feel safe in her hijab.\u201d<\/p>\n

His impassioned remarks came after fending off repeated attacks from mayoral rivals \u2014 former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa \u2014 who branded him antisemitic over\u00a0his anti-Israel views.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cThe dream of every Muslim is simply to be treated as any other New Yorker, and yet for too long we have been told to ask for less than that and to be satisfied with whatever little we receive,\u201d Mamdani\u00a0said during a press conference<\/a>\u00a0outside the Islamic Cultural Center of The Bronx on Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo more. I will not change who I am, how I eat, or the faith that I\u2019m proud to call my own. But there is one thing that I will change. I will no longer look for myself in the shadows. I will find myself in the light.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 34-year-old Queens Assemblyman also accused Cuomo and Sliwa of fueling Islamophobia in an effort to sabotage his campaign\u00a0before early voting kicked off Saturday morning<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Cuomo on Thursday\u00a0chuckled at the suggestion that Mamdani<\/a>, who is Muslim, would \u201cbe cheering\u201d if \u201canother 9\/11\u201d happened, during a radio interview with conservative WABC host Sid Rosenberg.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny given moment, there\u2019s a crisis, and people\u2019s lives are at stake. God forbid, there\u2019s another 9\/11. Can you imagine Mamdani in the seat?\u201d Cuomo asked Rosenberg.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019d be cheering,\u201d Rosenberg retorted.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Democrat also accused Sliwa of \u201cslandering\u201d him by claiming during\u00a0Wednesday\u2019s final mayoral election debate<\/a>\u00a0that the grinning pro-Palestine candidate supports \u201cglobal jihad.\u201d<\/p>\n

And he slammed Mayor Eric Adams for saying \u201cNew York can\u2019t be Europe, you see what is happening in other countries because of Islamic extremism\u201d\u00a0as he endorsed Cuomo\u2019s independent bid<\/a>\u00a0Thursday.<\/p>\n

If elected, Mamdani would become the first Muslim mayor of the Big Apple.<\/p>\n
