The Hudson County Prosecutor\u2019s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are investigating a fatal stabbing that occurred downtown Friday afternoon, authorities said.<\/p>\n

Shortly after 12:20 p.m. yesterday, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a stabbing in the area of Jersey Avenue, 1st Street, and Maxwell Street, Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Responding officers located an injured man with an apparent stab wound to the abdomen. He was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead just after 1 p.m.<\/p>\n

The cause and manner of death, as well as a positive identification of the man, are pending with the Regional Medical Examiner\u2019s Office, according to Mello.<\/p>\n

During the initial investigation, a person of interest was identified and remains in custody.
This matter is actively being investigated by the HCPO Homicide Unit and the Jersey City PD.<\/p>\n
