The Phoenix Theatre Company will present a powerful one-man play starting this month.<\/p>\n
\u201cLooking Over the President\u2019s Shoulder,\u201d written by James Still and directed by Chanel Bragg and based on the autobiography \u201cMy 21 Years in the White House,\u201d runs from Wednesday, Oct. 29 through Dec. 14 in the Judith Hardes Theatre.<\/p>\n
The play shines a spotlight on the remarkable true account of Alonzo Fields, who served as Chief Butler to four U.S. presidents, bearing witness to pivotal moments in American history.<\/p>\n
\u201cFields\u2019 story feels as urgent now as it did nearly a century ago,\u201d Bragg shared in a press release. \u201cHis journey reminds us of the power of service, sacrifice, and quiet resilience and how ordinary people shape history in lasting ways. He deferred his own dream in support of the leaders who worked to uphold that ideal. His life stands as a timeless reflection of dignity, perseverance, and purpose.\u201d<\/p>\n
From FDR learning of Pearl Harbor to Truman\u2019s decision to enter the Korean War, Fields\u2019 story is not of politics, but of service, pride, and the quiet dignity of shaping history from the margins.<\/p>\n
The production stars Kelcey Watson in his company debut, with Calvin J. Worthen as understudy.<\/p>\n
