A former principal coordinator of Eco Clubs with the Chandigarh Department of Environment, he has dedicated years to cultivating herbal gardens and promoting plant-based literacy across Punjab, Chandigarh, and Mohali.<\/p>\n<p>In an attempt to further spread awareness about the responsible and informed use of medicinal plants in daily life, St. Stephen\u2019s School, <a rel=\"noamphtml noopener\" class=\"keywordtourl\" href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/section\/cities\/chandigarh\/\" target=\"_blank\">Chandigarh<\/a>, organised a Herbal Literacy Workshop.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"lazyloading\" decoding=\"async\" data-lazy-type=\"lazyloading-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/track_1x1.jpg\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/track_1x1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1px\" height=\"1px\" style=\"display:none;\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The event opened with the school\u2019s Principal John Xavier\u2019s address. He urged participants to expand the definition of literacy to include herbal literacy, understanding, preserving, and utilising nature\u2019s healing gifts.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>Parkash introduced Dr Rajiv Kapila, an Ayurvedic expert, who traced India\u2019s herbal knowledge to the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and teachings of Dhanwantri and Sushruta Rishi. He explained the three \u2018doshas\u2019 \u2014 \u2018Vaat\u2019, \u2018Pitt\u2019, and \u2018Kaph\u2019 and shared practical ways to maintain balance through Ayurveda.<\/p>\n<p>Kapila highlighted the health benefits of herbs like Giloy, Amarbel, Shivlingi, Shatavari, and Neem, and described Bhumiamla for jaundice, Karela as natural insulin, and Moringa (Sahjan) as a nutrient powerhouse.
