Thunderstorms have caused widespread damage across Victoria, as torrential rains battered the state on Sunday afternoon.\u00a0<\/p>\n
A band of severe thunderstorms swept across the west of the state on Sunday, with the Bureau of Meteorology issuing a severe weather warning, which has now been cancelled.<\/p>\n
More than 25,000 Victorians were left without power following the storms, mostly in Melbourne and the state’s west.<\/p>\n

The vast majority of outages came from Citipower\/Powercor customers, with power expected to be restored by 9pm.<\/p>\n
City streets were also inundated by the storms, which saw floodwaters lapping at the doors of some businesses in Newport in Melbourne’s south-west.<\/p>\n

VicSES said it has received 395 requests for assistance on Sunday, with the majority coming on Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n
Werribee and Hoppers Crossing in the city’s west were the two most affected suburbs.<\/p>\n
The SES reported 215 incidents of building damage, and 80 trees down across the state.<\/p>\n

Werribee resident Eleanor Jewers likened the strength of the storm on Sunday afternoon to a “tornado”.<\/p>\n
“I thought the roof of the bedroom was going to come off,” Ms Jewers said.<\/p>\n
“It was nuts, my sister ended up seeing pants flying off the clothesline.”<\/p>\n

She said the storm had blown the tiles off their roof, and left her shocked when she came out after it had passed.<\/p>\n
