Radiohead<\/a> have reacted over \u2018Let Down\u2019 becoming the band\u2019s fourth US hit, 28 years after its release.<\/p>\n

The track, which came out as a promotional single in 1997, and appeared on Thom Yorke<\/a> and co\u2019s landmark studio album \u2018OK Computer\u2019<\/a> that same year, entered the Billboard\u00a0Hot 100<\/a> in August following an increasing resurgence on TikTok<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Radiohead have previously featured in the Hot 100 with the\u00a0\u2018In Rainbows\u2019<\/a>\u00a0track \u2018Nude\u2019 in 2008 (Number 37), \u2018High And Dry\u2019 in 1995 (Number 78), and \u2018Creep\u2019 in 1993 (Number 34). The latter remains the band\u2019s most successful single in the States.<\/p>\n

\u2018Let Down\u2019 also spent seven weeks on the UK singles chart upon its release, peaking at Number 85.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Speaking about the feat in a new interview with The Sunday Times<\/a>, Yorke said: \u201cI find that especially bizarre. Because I fought tooth and nail for it not to be on the record, but Ed O\u2019Brien<\/a> was, like, \u2018If it\u2019s not, I\u2019m leaving.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

The guitarist has now said the song is the \u201cemotional heart\u201d of \u2018OK Computer\u2019.<\/p>\n

Despite that, he was surprised by the reaction on TikTok. \u201cStill, I was astonished. So I told my kids, who are 18 and 21, and they said, \u2018What do you expect? Teenagers are depressed. It\u2019s depressing music!\u2019\u201d O\u2019Brien added.<\/p>\n

Drummer Philip Selway<\/a> also opened up about his own experience of cross-generational appreciation for the band.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was at the station the other day,\u201d he said. \u2018And schoolboys were playing \u2018Everything In Its Right Place\u2019 [from Kid A] on a piano. Then they played Bohemian Rhapsody.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in the interview, they also confirmed that their forthcoming shows will be played in the round<\/a>, and they revealed that they have whittled down their back catalogue to a shortlist of approximately 65 tracks, which Jonny Greenwood<\/a> said they are \u201call frantically learning\u201d.<\/p>\n

Radiohead are returning to the stage for the first time in over seven years in the coming weeks, with four-night residencies in each of Madrid, Bologna, London, Copenhagen and Berlin<\/a> set to take place between November 4 and December 12. All of the tickets sold out very quickly<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The band also recently revealed whether fans can expect new material from the band after they play their UK and European dates<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Radiohead spoke at length on their stance on Israel and Palestine<\/a>. In 2017, they encountered a backlash when they played a show in Tel Aviv, Israel<\/a>\u00a0despite protests urging them to cancel the gig from the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, as well as\u00a0criticism from Roger Waters, Thurston Moore, Young Fathers and others<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Last year,\u00a0Yorke clashed with a protester during a solo show in Melbourne<\/a>, arguing with an individual from the crowd and storming off stage, before\u00a0later issuing a lengthy statement explaining his decision<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Yorke said he will \u201cabsolutely not\u201d return to Israel<\/a> and he \u201cwouldn\u2019t want to be 5,000 miles anywhere near the Netanyahu regime\u201d.<\/p>\n

Greenwood, meanwhile, has come in for criticism for making records with Israeli musician Dudu Tassa<\/a>, and saw two UK gigs with Tassa cancelled earlier this year<\/a> after protesters called for a boycott. Greenwood, who is married to an Israeli artist, also played with Tassa in Tel Aviv last year<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On the subject of whether he would play in Israel again he said: \u201cI would also politely disagree with Thom. I would argue that the government is more likely to use a boycott and say, \u2018Everyone hates us \u2013 we should do exactly what we want.\u2019 Which is far more dangerous.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s nuts,\u201d he added. \u201cThe only thing that I\u2019m ashamed of is that I\u2019ve dragged Thom and the others into this mess \u2013 but I\u2019m not ashamed of working with Arab and Jewish musicians. I can\u2019t apologise for that.\u201d<\/p>\n
