Although the organization is in a transitional phase, leaning into developing its young core, it has been a promising start. An important piece of that development is Josh Giddey, who signed a four-year, $100 million contract in the offseason.

He is playing in his second season with the Bulls after arriving from the Oklahoma City Thunder. The 23-year-old wing averaged 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists and 1.2 steals while shooting 46.5% from the field and 37.8% from 3-point range last year. Giddey improved both from deep and on the defensive end and fit in nicely next to Matas Buzelis and Coby White, prompting Chicago to extend him.

Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddey (3).© Stephen Lew-Imagn Images

Giddey is off to a hot start this year as well. Throughout the first two wins against the Detroit Pistons and Orlando Magic, Giddey has emerged as the facilitator of Chicago’s offense, averaging 20 points, 6.5 rebounds and 7 assists per game.

However, his momentum was interrupted on Sunday. The Bulls released their official injury report, and Giddey’s name appeared. He is listed as questionable heading into Monday’s game against the Atlanta Hawks with a 4th MCP sprain of his right finger. As K.C. Johnson of Chicago Sports Network reports, Giddey did not finish the game against the Magic on Saturday, sitting out the final four minutes, 27 seconds. It is unclear whether the injury was the reason. If Giddey misses time, Kevin Huerter would likely log more minutes for the Bulls.

Giddey is in his fifth NBA season after spending his first three years in OKC, where he was selected sixth overall in the 2021 NBA Draft. Known early on for his playmaking and rebounding, he also struggled defensively and was often targeted in key matchups.

Since arriving in Chicago, however, he has shown steady improvement on that end while continuing to produce as a scorer and facilitator. If he’s unable to suit up Monday against the Hawks, the Bulls’ next game is Wednesday at home against the Sacramento Kings, where his status will again be worth monitoring.

Related: Russell Westbrook Shares NBA Retirement Update Before 18th Season

This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Oct 26, 2025, where it first appeared in the NBA section.
