JACKSONVILLE, Fla.<\/strong> \u2013 After a child and five adults were injured, two critically, in a crash Sunday on Normandy Boulevard<\/a>, local residents told News4JAX it\u2019s not the first time they\u2019ve seen mangled cars on that stretch of road.<\/p>\n

The crash Sunday was first reported around 3 p.m. west of Cecil Airport on Jacksonville\u2019s Westside.<\/p>\n

A Florida Highway Patrol report said an SUV headed west sideswiped a raised concrete barrier on the shoulder, flipped onto a car in the oncoming lane of Normandy Boulevard and was then hit by another SUV that was headed east. <\/p>\n

Two of the drivers suffered critical injuries, Another driver and two adult passengers in the vehicles were seriously injured, and a 2-year-old boy suffered minor injuries, FHP said.<\/p>\n

Joseph Cassels, who lives off Normandy Boulevard, said he\u2019s been in the area his whole life and said he sees bad crashes like Sunday\u2019s \u201call the time,\u201d particularly with construction in the area.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re putting in massive concrete barriers, then they\u2019re minimizing the width of the lanes. They\u2019re adding little, hardly nothing pieces of asphalt, and there\u2019s no stability. One little bump and you\u2019re slung all over the place,\u201d Cassels said. \u201cI\u2019m scared for anybody driving down. It\u2019s bad.\u201d<\/p>\n

Others News4JAX spoke to in the area on Sunday echoed Cassels\u2019 concerns about the dangerous stretch of road.<\/p>\n

Cassels argued that the city should halt building permits in the area until the infrastructure is in place to \u201chandle the amount of people they\u2019re trying to put out here.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cassels expressed concerns about the lack of nearby services and schools as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverywhere you\u2019ve got to go is miles and miles away from here, and everybody\u2019s running 70 mph,\u201d Cassels said.<\/p>\n

He added that he\u2019d like to see more speeding patrols in the area, particularly where children travel daily to and from school.<\/p>\n
