The MAGA cable channel Real America\u2019s Voice was forced to rebrand after it discovered that President Donald Trump would \u201cconfuse\u201d it for another network. <\/p>\n

Real America\u2019s Voice host Gina Loudon revealed to Senior Advisor for the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM) Kari Lake Wednesday the real reason behind the TV network\u2019s 2020 revamp.<\/p>\n

\u201cFun little fact, that I\u2019m not sure I\u2019ve ever even told you, is that when I first started working for Real America\u2019s Voice, it was just called America\u2019s Voice,\u201d Loudon told the former Fox News anchor. \u201cAnd I asked President Trump if I could come to the White House and talk to him about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Loudon said that she and right-wing journalist John Solomon, who helped craft Trump\u2019s Ukraine conspiracy<\/a> that falsely accused the nation of interfering in the 2016 U.S. presidential election, \u201cmade their pitch\u201d for what they saw as \u201cour vision for Real America\u2019s Voice.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were rebranding at that point from America\u2019s Voice to Real America\u2019s Voice because I kept hearing President Trump kind of confuses Voice of America with America\u2019s Voice, and obviously those things were not related at all,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

According to Loudon, Trump would get the right-wing outlet mixed up with the government-funded radio network, Voice of America (VOA), which Loudon claimed produced content that was \u201cdestructive to this nation.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cIt was confusing at the beginning, and thus we rebranded to Real America\u2019s Voice,\u201d she continued. \u201cAnd President Trump definitely knows the difference at this point, but it was confusing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump signed an executive order<\/a> in March against the network, which he dubbed \u201cThe Voice of Radical America,\u201d the White House stating that this order would \u201censure that taxpayers are no longer on the hook for radical propaganda.\u201d<\/p>\n

In defense of the president\u2019s decision, the White House cited articles VOA had written, like \u201cWhat Is \u2018White Privilege\u2019 and Whom Does It Help?<\/a>\u201d and a 2020 lawsuit that claimed that the network had \u201cbeen infiltrated by anti-American, pro-Islamic state interests\u201d and that its message \u201chad been compromised in a manner that was biased toward the Islamic state factions in Iran.\u201d<\/p>\n

As a result, over 85<\/a> percent of VOA employees, meaning around 1,400 staffers, have been put on leave since Trump\u2019s executive order went into effect in March. Many have since sued Lake and the Trump administration arguing that the massive cuts were unlawful. <\/p>\n

Loudon noted Wednesday that VOA\u2019s content was what spurred the president to call Lake, \u201cone of his most trusted\u201d friends, who would \u201ccome in and to upend this, and reinvent this whole thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat a great name, Voice of America,\u201d Lake remarked. \u201cUnfortunately they haven\u2019t been telling the true story of America, putting [its] best foot forward to the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is an outlet that only puts out news to the world, it\u2019s not meant for people here in America. It\u2019s to push out what America is about and America\u2019s story to the world, and they haven\u2019t been doing that,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Lake added that \u201cI believe that what the president has called for, which is to eliminate the agency, is the right thing to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump originally appointed the election conspiracist, who has previously denounced<\/a> the \u201cfake news\u201d for spending \u201cthe last eight years lying about President Donald Trump and his amazing patriotic supporters,\u201d to lead VOA in December.<\/p>\n

Though that position ultimately fell through, Lake\u2019s role as senior advisor at USAGM has allowed her to make significant changes to VOA, like having it partner with conservative network One America News (OAN), which has spread disinformation about the 2020 election, to distribute its programs. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis is an enormous benefit to the American taxpayer, who is the sole-source of funding for USAGM\u2019s news outlets, which broadcast only to international audiences,\u201d she wrote<\/a> in an X post announcing the new partnership.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn my current role as Senior Advisor to USAGM, I don\u2019t have editorial control over the content of VOA and OCB programming, but I can ensure our outlets have reliable and credible options as they work to craft their reporting and news programs,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n
