{"id":337004,"date":"2025-10-27T22:31:16","date_gmt":"2025-10-27T22:31:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/337004\/"},"modified":"2025-10-27T22:31:16","modified_gmt":"2025-10-27T22:31:16","slug":"alleged-charlie-kirk-assassin-tyler-robinson-scores-court-win-after-making-same-request-as-luigi-mangione","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/337004\/","title":{"rendered":"Alleged Charlie Kirk assassin Tyler Robinson scores court win after making same request as Luigi Mangione"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Charlie Kirk\u2019s alleged assassin Tyler Robinson will be allowed to wear civilian clothes in court after he made the same legal request as that of Luigi Mangione, another accused political assassin.<\/p>\n<p>Robinson, 22, who allegedly shot father-of-two Kirk in the neck while using high-powered rifle rounds inscribed with pro-trans messages, asked to be allowed to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/24\/us-news\/judge-to-make-ruling-on-tyler-robinsons-civilian-clothes-request\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wear civilian clothes\u00a0<\/a>in court \u2014 even before his jury trial.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Tony Graf agreed to the request, but denied Robinson\u2019s bid to ditch his shackles in the courtroom, citing the safety of the public and court staff.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.34736842;display:block\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"37498373\" width=\"795\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/photo-released-utah-governors-office-111217031.jpg\" alt=\"Tyler Robinson\" class=\"wp-image-37498373\"  \/>Charlie Kirk\u2019s accused assassin, Tyler Robinson, asked a judge to allow him to appear in civilian clothes in court. AP<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe case has attracted extraordinary public and media attention,\u201d Graf said. \u201cImages of Mr. Robinson in jail clothing are likely to circulate widely and influence prospective jurors. Given the scale of that publicity, the risk of prejudice is significant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Robinson\u2019s right to the presumption of innocence outweighs the minimal inconvenience of permitting civilian attire and Mr. Robinson shall be dressed as one who is presumed innocent,\u201d Graf added.<\/p>\n<p>But the judge stopped short of allowing him to be un-cuffed, instead instructing the media not to photograph his restraints or Robinson walking in and out of the courtroom.<\/p>\n<p>Robinson appeared from jail and was not shown in the brief video hearing. He only spoke once to answer the judge when asked if he could hear him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, I can,\u201d Robinson responded, his voice hoarse.<\/p>\n<p>The Utah native\u2019s lawyer argued in an Oct. 9 motion that if he continues to wear jail clothes and shackles during court hearings future jurors could be prejudiced against him.<\/p>\n<p>The lawyer also noted that he was captured during a video hearing wearing a suicide-prevention vest from inside jail which unfairly led to \u201cendless scrutiny and speculation,\u201d the Salt Lake Tribune<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sltrib.com\/news\/2025\/10\/22\/charlie-kirks-accused-killer-wants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Utah prosecutors responded in sealed court papers, co-authored with the  Utah County Sheriff\u2019s Office, claiming the filing had \u201csecure information that might endanger personal and public safety if disclosed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Accused UnitedHealthcare CEO killer Mangione previously <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/03\/us-news\/model-prisoner-luigi-mangione-whines-about-wearing-handcuffs-bulletproof-vest-asks-judge-for-exception-next-time-hes-in-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">made a similar bid <\/a>to be allowed to ditch a bulletproof vest and handcuffs on the grounds it made him unfairly appear to be extraordinarily dangerous.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors argued in his case that he shouldn\u2019t be allowed special treatment.<\/p>\n<p>The judge didn\u2019t rule on that but Mangione was in jail clothes and handcuffed at his last hearing. He wasn\u2019t wearing a bullet proof vest at that hearing.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"37498377\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/2025-trent-nelson-salt-lake-111105653_71058f.jpg\" alt=\"Charlie Kirk\" class=\"wp-image-37498377\"  \/>Robinson is accused of fatally shooting conservative firebrand, Kirk, on Sept. 10. via REUTERS<\/p>\n<p>Criminal defendants are usually allowed to appear in civilian clothing during trial so that jurors won\u2019t prejudicially judge their guilt based on jail clothing. <\/p>\n<p>Robinson<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/29\/us-news\/tyler-robinson-suspect-in-charlie-kirk-assassination-case-faces-court-hearing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> is charged with fatally gunning down<\/a> conservative firebrand and Turning Point USA founder Kirk, 31, during a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10. <\/p>\n<p>Robinson is charged with aggravated murder and related crimes.
