The 38-year-old was a LIV wildcard last season, but he struggled to improve on his opening T36 finish during the campaign and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/sport\/golf\/liv-golf-hudson-swafford-pga-33952458\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">was subsequently released,<\/a> leaving him at a career crossroads.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"mirror\">Swafford had been part of the first wave of players to defect from the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/pga-tour\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">PGA Tour<\/a> and compete in the inaugural <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/liv-golf\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">LIV<\/a> events in 2022. The three-time PGA title winner competed in five LIV events that year and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.themirror.com\/sport\/golf\/hudson-swafford-pga-tour-liv-1314299\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">received a lengthy PGA ban<\/a> for his decision to join the breakaway league.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"mirror\">A hip injury disrupted his 2023 season, and last year\u2019s wildcard gave him another chance to prove himself. However, as a result of his disappointing performances, Swafford\u2019s future in the sport was uncertain due to being ineligible to rejoin the PGA for at least 12 months after leaving LIV.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"mirror\">The American golfer could have chosen to compete on an alternate <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/sport\/golf\/\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">golf<\/a> tour. However, he made the bold decision to take a break from the sport and pursue another career.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"mirror\">Swafford has revealed that he is currently working for a real estate company in Atlanta after leaving LIV. I mean, golf is amazing. Competing at the highest level is the best, but it\u2019s very tough on a family life and I have three kids. So seeing that aspect and being around a lot more has really been kind of eye-opening and it\u2019s actually been really, really enjoyable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/0_GettyImages-2163801883.jpg\" alt=\"Hudson Swafford\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Hudson Swafford has been enjoying his real estate career after leaving LIV golf last year(Image: Charlotte Tattersall\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"mirror\">Swafford would have been unable to immediately return to the PGA due to the automatic 12-month suspension that applies to players who have left LIV. While he has been in discussions with the PGA, Swafford has <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.themirror.com\/sport\/golf\/hudson-swafford-pga-tour-liv-1314299\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">revealed that his ban is scheduled to end in 2027.<\/a> He claimed this was based on the five LIV events he competed in during 2022, receiving a 12-month suspension for each breach.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"mirror\">\u201cI\u2019ve had some good back-and-forths with the PGA Tour, but then some wishy-washy,\u201d Swafford explained. \u201cIt\u2019s still not set in stone. I know they\u2019ve set up suspended until \u201927, which I know they\u2019re basing that on a couple of people\u2019s contracts being up after the \u201926 season, so then they can kind of change rules in favour of everybody coming back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"mirror\">There have been examples of former LIV players returning to the PGA after serving a year\u2019s suspension, but it seems that does not apply to Swafford. While he can envision a timeline for when the rift between LIV and the PGA will begin to mend, Swafford remains unconvinced about the severity of his own ban.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/0_GettyImages-1366505148.jpg\" alt=\"Hudson Swafford with The American Express trophy\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Hudson Swafford won The American Express in 2022 before joining LIV Golf(Image: Steph Chambers\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"mirror\">\u201cI don\u2019t know how you can come up with a five or five-and-a-half year suspension based on I played five events while the PGA Tour season was going on in \u201922 that I wasn\u2019t able to get media releases for,\u201d he said. \u201cSo they&#8217;re giving me a year for each of those &#8211; that&#8217;s how they came up with &#8217;27.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"mirror\">Swafford is enjoying his career in real estate and is unsure how the sport will look if he chooses to return. He predicts that changes on the PGA Tour could impact how he would be made to qualify for future events.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"mirror\">\u201cProblem is, if I come in and talk to them, it\u2019s like, \u2018OK, I can come back and play in \u201927, but what does \u201927 on the PGA Tour really look like?\u2019\u201d Swafford admitted. \u201cIs it no more opposite field events? They\u2019re already reducing fields.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\" publication=\"mirror\">\u201cSo, I would go ahead and bet and say that the past champions category is pretty much done going forward after this year. I mean, we can agree or disagree, but it just seems like that. And they\u2019ve kind of told me that.
