The company revealed the prototype at the K-Tech Showcase, a side event of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit 2025. The device is expected to be formally announced during the main event, which takes place in South Korea from October 31 to November 1.

Samsung’s long-awaited TriFold smartphone shown in an official prototype

Unlike Samsung’s current Galaxy Z Fold series, which uses a single hinge to unfold once, the TriFold features a dual-hinge mechanism that allows it to fold twice. The design integrates three display panels into one, enabling it to transform seamlessly from a 6.5-inch smartphone into a 10-inch tablet-like display. There’s also a normal smartphone-sized cover screen on the back.

Visually, the Galaxy Z TriFold resembles a small tablet PC when unfolded, with a wider horizontal aspect ratio. It expands Samsung’s foldable lineup into a whole new category, demonstrating its continued dominance in foldable innovation. This is the first public appearance of the device, giving attendees an early glimpse at Samsung’s most ambitious foldable yet.

However, visitors were not allowed to touch or test the phone, as it was displayed securely behind a glass case. The company may open it to the public at the APEC Summit later this week, followed by commercial availability next month. According to industry estimates, the Galaxy Z TriFold’s launch price may come at around $3,000.

However, Samsung may produce a limited initial batch, roughly 50,000 to 100,000 units. It may focus on markets with strong demand for futuristic products, such as Korea, China, Singapore, Taiwan, and the UAE. A US release appears unlikely at this stage. Time will tell whether it becomes a niche collector’s item or sets the stage for a new era in mobile design.

Samsung has officially unveiled a physical prototype of the much-anticipated Galaxy Z TriFold, its first tri-folding smartphone.
