{"id":337869,"date":"2025-10-28T07:22:09","date_gmt":"2025-10-28T07:22:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/337869\/"},"modified":"2025-10-28T07:22:09","modified_gmt":"2025-10-28T07:22:09","slug":"council-delays-decision-on-taaaze-suit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/337869\/","title":{"rendered":"Council delays decision on TAAAZE suit |"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The clock is ticking \u2026<\/p>\n<p>Former Councilman Bob Littlefield and his political action committee Taxpayers Against Awful Apartment Zoning Exemptions filed a lawsuit Sept. 25 \u2013 hours before Senate Bill 1543 was to become law.<\/p>\n<p>In attempting to block a law making a referendum moot and allowing Axon\u2019s apartments-hotel-office North Scottsdale plan, Littlefield\u2019s complaint targets not only the state, but also the city of Scottsdale.<\/p>\n<p>According to Luis Santaella, the interim city attorney, Scottsdale has until Nov. 7 to respond to the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>Concerning the matter, Mayor Lisa Borowsky added two agenda items to the Oct. 21 Scottsdale City Council \u201cspecial meeting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The first was for a private\/\u201dexecutive session\u201d meeting to \u201cdiscuss and consult with the city\u2019s attorneys and representatives to consider its position and give possible instruction regarding Taxpayers Against Awful Apartment Zoning Exemptions, et al. v. State of Arizona, City of Scottsdale.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The second was to authorize Santaella \u201cto file any appropriate counter claim(s), cross claim(s), and third-party claim(s)\u201d in the TAAAZE suit.<\/p>\n<p>Translating the legalese: Scottsdale could fight the claims \u2013 or join in with Littlefield and company.<\/p>\n<p>Things didn\u2019t quite work out the way the agenda planned it.<\/p>\n<p>The 4 p.m. special meeting started with presentations by two dozen locals, each pitching a spot on one of six boards.<\/p>\n<p>That took nearly an hour, which, as Borowsky noted, put them right up against the regular meeting start time of 5 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the TAAAZE issue, Borowsky said, \u201cI\u2019m tempted to push this \u2026 to next week,\u201d asking Santaella\u2019s opinion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d like to have discussion tonight,\u201d he quickly responded, \u201cbecause I\u2019d like to have direction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Council did approve a motion to move the executive session until after the regular meeting.<\/p>\n<p>But, after a long workshop presentation on grass and water, council members were apparently beaten down by the combined nearly four-hour meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Just before 9 p.m., Borowsky closed the regular meeting and returned to the matter left \u201cdangling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe left off with going into executive session,\u201d Borowsky summarized, \u201cthere was a question on whether there\u2019s a deadline and that\u2019s been answered.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Councilman Barry Graham made a motion to \u201cdefer this (executive session) until the next meeting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Council\u2019s next scheduled meeting is Nov. 3.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The clock is ticking \u2026 Former Councilman Bob Littlefield and his political action committee Taxpayers Against Awful Apartment&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":337870,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5131],"tags":[5229,5643,4193,1587,166900,166898,138901,166899,1589,46683,67,586,132,5230,68,2969],"class_list":{"0":"post-337869","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-phoenix","8":"tag-america","9":"tag-arizona","10":"tag-axon","11":"tag-az","12":"tag-barry-graham","13":"tag-bob-littlefield","14":"tag-lisa-borowsky","15":"tag-luis-santaella","16":"tag-phoenix","17":"tag-scottsdale-city-council","18":"tag-united-states","19":"tag-united-states-of-america","20":"tag-unitedstates","21":"tag-unitedstatesofamerica","22":"tag-us","23":"tag-usa"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@us\/115450593591495322","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/337869","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=337869"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/337869\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/337870"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=337869"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=337869"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=337869"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
