Donald Trump<\/a>\u2019s trade war with Canada is doing him no political favors domestically, CNN<\/a>\u2019s chief data analyst Harry Enten warned on Monday.<\/p>\n

Enten highlighted growing opposition among Americans to Trump\u2019s tariffs overall but said \u201cpicking a fight with Canada is just something totally different.\u201d<\/p>\n

Canada, he noted, is \u201cfar more popular\u201d in the United States than Trump himself, citing a net favorability rating among Americans of +49 percentage points for Canada versus -10 for Trump.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re talking about Canada coming out nearly 60 points ahead on the net popularity rating versus Donald Trump here in the United States,\u201d Enten said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you pick on Canada as a United States president, you are picking on a country that the American people adore, they adore Canada,\u201d he continued. \u201cCanada has always been a friend to the United States, at least during our lifetimes. And when you\u2019re going after Canada, you are going against someone who is far more popular than you are, Donald Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPretty much every single time among most Americans, Americans will choose Canada over Donald Trump,\u201d Enten added. \u201cYet Trump has decided to pick yet another fight with somebody, or some entity, or some country that is more popular than he is.\u201d<\/p>\n

When it comes to how Canadians view the U.S., Enten said the feeling isn\u2019t mutual. \u201cThey think Trump\u2019s a big poseur. They hate Donald Trump, they hate everything that he\u2019s doing,\u201d he said, noting that the share of Canadians who now view America as \u201can enemy or potential threat\u201d has soared from 7% in 2023 when former President Joe Biden<\/a> was in office to 48% today.<\/p>\n
