Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Occasionally, they do their rounds with bruises and split lips \u2014 souvenirs from violent pimps who savagely beat them when they step out of line or don\u2019t meet their quota.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier last year, a group of local and federal law-enforcement agencies launched an initiative to crack down on the trafficking and rescue the victims.<\/p>\n<p>In August, the city attorney\u2019s office announced that 190 traffickers had been arrested and 200 children rescued, some as young as 12.<\/p>\n<p>Yet a trafficking victim interviewed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/10\/26\/magazine\/sex-trafficking-girls-la-figueroa.html?smid=url-share\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">New York Times<\/a> said \u201cthe Blade\u201d is now busier than ever before, with young girls being shipped in from across the country.<\/p>\n<p>An officer processes a suspected prostitute after a bust in \u201cthe Blade.\u201d Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The growing throngs of exploited children inspired a nickname for the district from the LA city attorney: \u201cKiddie Stroll.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the state level, new laws have hampered authorities\u2019 ability to identify victims and prosecute their traffickers.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tStart your day with all you need to know\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"inline-module__cta\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMorning Report delivers the latest news, videos, photos and more.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tThanks for signing up!\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Some of these laws were meant to shift blame away from trafficking victims and onto their pimps, including one law passed in 2019 that treats underage prostitutes as victims of abuse rather than criminal offenders.<\/p>\n<p>But another controversial law \u2014 SB-357, passed in 2023 \u2014 bars law enforcement from approaching an underage victim based on how she\u2019s dressed.<\/p>\n<p>The area has seen an explosion of trafficked women. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>LA\u2019s notorious Hoover Gang is behind much of the trafficking on Figueroa Street, authorities say.<\/p>\n<p>In August, the US Attorney General <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-cdca\/pr\/11-charged-federal-indictment-alleging-extensive-sex-trafficking-minors-and-young\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">announced the arrest of 11 Hoover ringleaders<\/a>, including Amaya \u201cLady Duck\u201d Armstead, 25, an alleged prostitution queenpin who was specifically charged with trafficking a 14-year-old girl.<\/p>\n<p>The joint bust by local and federal agencies was a crown jewel in LA\u2019s ongoing fight against exploitation in Los Angeles.
