\n\tMorris Chestnut<\/a> fondly remembers his co-star on The Resident<\/a>, the late Malcolm-Jamal Warner<\/a>, as \u201csuch a good dude.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Watson star told People<\/a> in a recent interview that he \u201cstill can\u2019t believe that Malcolm\u2019s no longer here.\u201d Warner died in a drowning accident<\/a> at the age of 54 while vacationing with his family in Costa Rica in July of this year. The duo worked together on Fox\u2019s medical drama\u00a0The Resident\u00a0when Chestnut boarded the show in Season 3 (Warner was a series regular).<\/p>\n

\n\tPointing out an image of the two of them on set together, Chestnut said, \u201cI remember this scene. Our characters didn\u2019t like each other. He was very protective of everybody on the show and that\u2019s kind of how he was.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Reasonable Doubt actor also recalled the first time he saw Warner: while the latter was starring in The Cosby Show as Theo Huxtable \u2014 a role that led him to an Emmy nomination and which \u201cresonated\u201d with Chestnut \u201cthe most.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI can see myself, as an actor, in his character,\u201d Chestnut recalled. \u201cI hadn\u2019t decided to act at that time, but that probably was one of the first times I was like, \u2018Wow, that\u2019s kind of cool. This dude\u2019s an actor on TV, we kind of look alike.\u2019 Matter of fact, he had one of my favorite episodes on\u00a0The Cosby Show\u00a0with the Gordon Gartrell shirt \u2014 that\u2019s just one of my favorite all-time episodes.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen the two met years later, Chestnut and Warner discussed the episode.<\/p>\n

\n\tChestnut remembered, \u201cHe was telling me a couple stories about working in New York. When I first came to that cast, he was like, \u2018Hey, let\u2019s go grab a bite to eat.\u2019 So we went out to dinner \u2026 [He was] just an incredible dude. I hate what happened to him. Rest in peace.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWarner\u2019s\u00a0prolific TV career\u00a0<\/a>\u2014 from his eight seasons on The Cosby Show to his time on Malcolm & Eddie and Reed Between the Lines\u00a0\u2014 was honored by many in the industry since his death, including co-stars and executives. Collaborators like Angela Bassett, Yvette Nicole Brown, Sherri Shepherd, Tracee Ellis Ross were\u00a0among those to pay tribute<\/a>, alongside\u00a0The Resident\u00a0executive producers and Chestnut<\/a>, who said at the time, \u201cWorking alongside him on\u00a0The Resident\u00a0was an honor. He brought so much depth, warmth, and wisdom to every scene and every conversation. One of the nicest in the business. Rest easy, brother.
