The Oscar winner has been a tabloid fixture for 15 years and once told fellow actor Viola Davis: \u201cEvery time I do an interview, I think, \u2018I can\u2019t do this to myself again.\u2019\u00a0I feel like I lose so much control over my craft when I have to do press for a movie.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWhen the subject of Lawrence\u2019s old interviews came up, the actor winced and said: \u201cOh, no. So hyper. So embarrassing.\u201d  While the public initially loved Lawrence for her candid, self-deprecating personality, perception of her online eventually soured with claims that it was all fake. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWell, it is, or it was, my genuine personality, but it was also a defense mechanism,\u201d Lawrence said about being so off the cuff in interviews. \u201cAnd so it was a defense mechanism, to just be, like, \u2018I\u2019m not like that! I poop my pants every day!\u2019 \u2026 I look at those interviews, and that person is annoying. I get why seeing that person everywhere would be annoying. Ariana Grande\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=fMOKevIBwDs\" target=\"_blank\">impression of me on \u2018SNL\u2019<\/a> was spot-on.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn a \u201cCelebrity Family Feud\u201d sketch from 2016, \u201cSNL\u201d mocked Lawrence by having Grande say lines such as \u201cI\u2019m just, like, a snackaholic. I mean, I love Pringles. If no one\u2019s looking, I\u2019ll eat, like, a whole can.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe public backlash against Lawrence became \u201cuninhabitable,\u201d she told The New Yorker, adding: \u201cI felt \u2014 I didn\u2019t feel, I was, I think \u2014 rejected not for my movies, not for my politics, but for me, for my personality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tLawrence has been open in <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/film\/news\/jennifer-lawrence-acting-break-peace-1236556957\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">past interviews <\/a>about needing to take a two year break from Hollywood after making 16 movies in six years, a string of which flopped at the box office and only inflamed the public\u2019s negative reception of her. She told <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/hollywood\/2021\/11\/jennifer-lawrence-on-love-fame-boundaries-and-dont-look-up\">Vanity Fair<\/a>\u00a0in 2021: \u201cI just think everybody had gotten sick of me. I\u2019d gotten sick of me. It had just gotten to a point where I couldn\u2019t do anything right. If I walked a red carpet, it was, \u2018Why didn\u2019t she run?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tLawrence continued, \u201cI was people-pleasing for the majority of my life. Working made me feel like nobody could be mad at me: \u2018Okay, I said yes, we\u2019re doing it. Nobody\u2019s mad.\u2019 And then I felt like I reached a point where people were not pleased just by my existence. So that kind of shook me out of thinking that work or your career can bring any kind of peace to your soul.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn a recent interview on \u201cThe Graham Norton Show,\u201d Lawrence revealed she \u201cwas at peace\u201d with her decision to remain out of Hollywood. She added: [Hollywood] is a lot. \u2026 I think I would have been [okay], but also I would\u2019ve been really upset. I don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tLawrence is now back doing press for \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/die-my-love\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Die My Love<\/a>,\u201d a psychodrama co-starring Robert Pattinson from director Lynne Ramsay. The film, which stars Lawrence as a woman whose life spirals as she balances marriage and motherhood, had its world premiere at Cannes earlier this year. Martin Scorsese personally courted Lawrence to headline the movie after he read the novel of the same name and thought it would be a great movie. The duo was considering adapting Kate Chopin\u2019s 1899 novel \u201cThe Awakening\u201d into a movie, but Scorsese didn\u2019t think it\u2019d be enough of a challenge for Lawrence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI said, \u2018You know what?\u00a0This\u00a0is a challenge,\u2019\u201d Scorsese told Lawrence. \u201c\u2018This is the kind of thing you should be doing. Go take a chance. Knock any sense of a comfortable character off the board and just go for it.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tMubi is releasing \u201cDie My Love\u201d in theaters Nov. 7.
