AKRIS \u2013 Fashion with a Hertiage <\/p>\n
On Wednesday, Oct. 29, The Bolton Arts Foundation<\/a> will host the Texas premiere of Reiner Holzemer\u2019s film, AKRIS \u2013 Fashion with a Heritage. The screening will take place at the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum<\/a>, preceded by a cocktail hour presented by Neiman Marcus<\/a>.<\/p>\n Specializing in intimate documentary portraits of artists and designers, Holzemer\u2019s previous works include Thom Browne: The Man Who Tailors Dreams, Martin Margiela: In His Own Words and Dries. His latest film centers around the Swiss luxury fashion house AKRIS; it premiered in New York on June 9 at the 24th Tribeca Film Festival. <\/p>\n Founded by 26-year-old Alice Kriemler-Schoch in 1922 (the name AKRIS is drawn from her initials), AKRIS has grown from humble beginnings with handcrafted aprons to a global brand over a century in the making. The house is currently headed by the founder\u2019s grandsons, Albert and Peter Kriemler, who carry through her commitment to quality and designs \u201cthat serve the modern woman, not distract from her.\u201d Known for \u201cquiet luxury\u201d long before pop culture latched onto the phrase, AKRIS is a favorite among celebrities, including Amal Clooney, Kerry Washington and Alicia Keys. The film chronicles two years of behind-the-scenes footage, including moments captured during the brand\u2019s landmark centennial year.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \u201cI have long admired Holzemer\u2019s ability to capture the emotional and intellectual core of fashion in a way that is both accessible and deeply moving,\u201d says Kendel R. Bolton, Founder and Executive Director of The Bolton Arts Foundation. \u201cWhen I saw AKRIS \u2013 Fashion with a Heritage, I knew instantly that I had to bring it to Dallas.\u201d<\/p>\n Bolton, a graduate of Dallas\u2019 Wade College, is now on faculty at the prestigious Parsons School of Design \u2013 The New School in New York City. He established the organization in 2021 with a mission to bridge fashion, film and academia through student-centered programming.\u00a0 <\/p>\n \u201cI created the foundation from a deep desire to give students access to the kinds of experiences and opportunities that have the power to transform careers,\u201d he says. <\/p>\n This benefit joins a lineup which has included exhibits, panel discussions and film screenings across the organization\u2019s first few years. Wednesday\u2019s beneficiary, the Texas Fashion Collection, represents a world-class archive of nearly 7,000 items at the University of North Texas.<\/p>\n
