A 37-year-old man was arrested this week for allegedly gunning down and killing another man in Shelltown nearly three years ago, homicide investigators said Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Marcanthony Valencia was arrested Monday afternoon at his work site on Twain Avenue near Mission Gorge Road in connection with the September 2022 killing of 40-year-old Mario Galvez, San Diego police Lt. Lou Maggi said.<\/p>\n
Valencia was booked into San Diego jail on suspicion of murder, owning a firearm without a serial number and possessing an assault weapon, according to Sheriff\u2019s Office online arrest logs. He is being held without bail.<\/p>\n
On the night of the shooting, officers received multiple calls reporting a man had been shot on Una Avenue near Cole Street around 5:50 p.m., Maggi said. Witnesses said the gunman ran to a mid-size sedan and drove away.<\/p>\n
When officers arrived, they found Galvez suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body and head.<\/p>\n
He was taken to a hospital, where he died less than two hours later, Maggi said.<\/p>\n
Detectives said that during their investigation, they learned Galvez was standing outside his vehicle when he got into a verbal fight with the gunman on the street. The altercation escalated, the shooter pulled out a handgun and multiple shots were fired.<\/p>\n
