Deputies say a child custody dispute turned violent at a Harris County Walmart, leading to a shooting, a chase, and a crash nearby.<\/p>\n
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas \u2014 The Harris County Sheriff\u2019s Office is searching for several people believed to be involved in a shooting and chase late Tuesday night in west Harris County.<\/p>\n
Deputies said the incident stemmed from an alleged child custody dispute between two families. A child was present during the altercation but was not hurt.<\/p>\n
Investigators said the situation began around 9:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the Walmart Supercenter off North Fry Road near West Little York. A father and his current girlfriend were reportedly inside the store when members of the child\u2019s mother\u2019s family confronted them.<\/p>\n
The argument escalated and moved outside, where one of the mother\u2019s family members allegedly shot the father\u2019s girlfriend.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe girlfriend of the father was ultimately struck in the leg one time, non-life-threatening injuries. They loaded her in this vehicle, fled the scene. The suspects gave chase, short chase through this neighborhood behind us, ultimately ending here with the victim crashing their vehicle,\u201d said Sgt. Clint Myers with the HCSO Domestic Violence Unit.<\/p>\n
Deputies later discovered the crashed vehicle near Fry Road and Coldfield as they responded to the shooting scene. The girlfriend was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n
Investigators said the suspects, believed to be members of the mother\u2019s family, continued north on North Fry Road after the crash. Deputies are still searching for those involved.<\/p>\n
The investigation is ongoing.<\/p>\n
