{"id":341231,"date":"2025-10-29T17:32:12","date_gmt":"2025-10-29T17:32:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/341231\/"},"modified":"2025-10-29T17:32:12","modified_gmt":"2025-10-29T17:32:12","slug":"disney-folds-hulu-live-tv-into-fubo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/341231\/","title":{"rendered":"Disney folds Hulu + Live TV into Fubo"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Walt Disney Co. on Wednesday said it finalized its deal to acquire a majority stake in FuboTV and swiftly combined its Hulu + Live TV business with the sports-focused operation. <\/p>\n<p>The union creates the nation\u2019s sixth largest pay-TV service with nearly 6 million domestic subscribers.<\/p>\n<p>Financial terms were not disclosed.<\/p>\n<p>Similar to competitors DirecTV, YouTube TV and Charter Spectrum, both Hulu + Live TV and Fubo distribute traditional channels including broadcasters ABC, CBS and cable channels Fox News, Bravo and ESPN. <\/p>\n<p>The combined company will be overseen by a nine-member board led by Brad Bird, former chairman of Walt Disney International. The firm will continue to offer Fubo and Hulu + Live TV as separate services available through their respective apps.<\/p>\n<p>Disney\u2019s <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/business\/story\/2025-01-06\/fubo-is-acquired-by-disney-ending-legal-action-over-venu\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">investment plans were announced<\/a> in January, after the much smaller Fubo sued Disney and two other media companies over their plans to launch a high-profile streaming joint venture, Venu Sports. Fubo argued the collaboration of Disney, Fox Corp. and Warner Bros. Discovery was \u201c<a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/business\/story\/2024-02-20\/fubo-calls-streaming-service-sports-cartel-fox-disney-espn-anti-trust\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a sports cartel<\/a>,\u201d one that would crush its business. <\/p>\n<p>A <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/business\/story\/2024-08-16\/venu-disney-fox-warner-sports-streamer-suffers-a-blow-in-anti-trust-case\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">judge agreed based on anti-trust concerns,<\/a> blocking further development of Venu. <\/p>\n<p>Disney\u2019s deal to acquire 70% of New York-based Fubo ended <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/business\/story\/2024-02-20\/fubo-calls-streaming-service-sports-cartel-fox-disney-espn-anti-trust\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">that litigation.<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>The combined business will be led by Fubo Chief Executive David Gandler, who co-founded the service, and Fubo\u2019s management team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince Fubo\u2019s founding a decade ago, our vision has always been to build a consumer-first streaming platform defined by innovation and value,\u201d Gandler said in a statement. \u201cTogether with Disney, we\u2019re creating a more flexible streaming ecosystem that gives consumers greater choice, while driving profitability and sustainable growth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His firm will have access to a $145 million term loan that Disney agreed to provide. Fubo\u2019s ad sales team will join Disney\u2019s sales organization.<\/p>\n<p>The company\u2019s stock will continue to be publicly traded under the FUBO ticker. Existing Fubo shareholders represent about 30% of the company.
