In honor of the special day, recognized since 2023, entry to all 89 parks across the state is free to the public Sunday. We\u2019ve rounded up North Texas parks less than \u2014 or just upwards of \u2014 an hour\u2019s drive from either Fort Worth or the Tarrant County area.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Parks will operate as normal and may limit admissions depending on capacity. Information on <a href=\"https:\/\/tpwd.texas.gov\/state-parks\/parks\/things-to-do\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">activities<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/tpwd.texas.gov\/calendar\/state-park-events\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">events<\/a> can be found at the Texas Parks &amp; Wildlife Department website.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Cedar Hill State Park<\/p>\n<p>Sitting just south of Fort Worth and Dallas, the <a href=\"https:\/\/tpwd.texas.gov\/state-parks\/cedar-hill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">park<\/a> is home to Joe Pool Lake, hundreds of campsites and trails that span thousands of acres.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Address: <\/strong>1570 West FM 1382, Cedar Hill<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hours: <\/strong>6 a.m.\u201310 p.m. daily<\/p>\n<p>Cleburne State Park<\/p>\n<p>This <a href=\"https:\/\/tpwd.texas.gov\/state-parks\/cleburne\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">North Texas park<\/a> is about 30 minutes southwest of Fort Worth. Guests can canoe, kayak, fish, swim and boat on the lake. The park features 13 miles of trails.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Address: <\/strong>5800 Park Road 21, Cleburne<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hours: <\/strong>7 a.m.\u201310 p.m. daily<\/p>\n<p>Dinosaur Valley State Park<\/p>\n<p>Where dinosaurs once roamed along the cusp of an ancient ocean is now the home of a <a href=\"https:\/\/tpwd.texas.gov\/state-parks\/dinosaur-valley\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Glen Rose state park<\/a>. (Courtesy photo | Texas Parks &amp; Wildlife Department)<\/p>\n<p>Lake Mineral Wells State Park &amp; Trailway<\/p>\n<p>Located in cattle country, the <a href=\"https:\/\/tpwd.texas.gov\/state-parks\/lake-mineral-wells\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mineral Wells site<\/a> includes a 640-acre lake, fishing piers and rock climbing. Various trails are available for hikers and bikers looking for either an easy or challenging journey.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Address: <\/strong>100 Park Road 71, Mineral Wells<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hours: <\/strong>6 a.m.\u201310 p.m. daily<\/p>\n<p>Ray Roberts Lake State Park<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tpwd.texas.gov\/state-parks\/ray-roberts-lake\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ray Roberts Lake<\/a> provides natural areas for various activities. On the lake, park goers can swim, paddle or fish. If you\u2019re looking for quieter ventures, guests can camp overnight, take part in nature and art programs or explore miles of trails.
