Maura Healey was hit with drug trafficking charges after authorities intercepted <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/05\/26\/us-news\/fbi-revisiting-biden-white-house-cocaine-find-dobbs-leak-and-jan-6-pipe-bombs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">eight kilograms of cocaine<\/a> being delivered to a state office building.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>LaMar Cook, who has served as deputy director of <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/16\/us-news\/massachusetts-gov-healey-underfire-after-whistleblower-exposes-sentencing-pattern-of-illegal-child-rapists\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Healey\u2019s western Massachusetts office<\/a> since 2023, was charged with trafficking over 200 grams of cocaine, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition related to the bust, Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni <a href=\"https:\/\/hampdenda.com\/hampden-district-attorneys-office-announces-narcotics-arrest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced Wednesday<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Multiple parcels containing about 21 kilograms of <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/03\/29\/world-news\/locksmith-issues-warning-about-using-keys-to-snort-cocaine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cocaine<\/a> have been seized by Massachusetts State Police throughout the investigation into Cook.<\/p>\n<p>Cook was arrested during a Tuesday traffic stop, three days after authorities conducted a \u201ccontrolled delivery operation\u201d of eight kilos of coke to the Springfield State Office Building, where the Healey staffer worked.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"37524893\" width=\"590\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/lamar-cook-deputy-director-governors-114441389.jpg\" alt=\"Lamar Cook, Deputy Director of the Governors Western Mass Office.\" class=\"wp-image-37524893\"  \/>Cook has served as deputy director of Healy\u2019s Western Massachusetts office since 2023. linkedin\/LaMar Cook<\/p>\n<p>His arrest is also linked to parcels seized at the Hotel UMass in Amherst, where Cook was previously employed, containing about 13 kilos of the drug.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvidence collected during that operation was consistent with the narcotics recovered during the most recent controlled delivery in Springfield,\u201d Gulluni said.<\/p>\n<p>Cook, 45, was arraigned Wednesday in Springfield District Court and pleaded not guilty. His bail was set at $25,000.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the Western Massachusetts Director for Governor Maura Healey, I serve as a key liaison between the state government and the western region of Massachusetts,\u201d the LinkedIn bio for the suspected cocaine trafficker reads.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn this role, I effectively manage and coordinate government initiatives and policies in 4 counties.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Cook was fired from his post in the governor\u2019s administration after his arrest, a spokesperson for Healy said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe governor\u2019s office has been made aware of the arrest of an employee, Lamar Cook. The conduct that occurred here is unacceptable and represents a major breach of the public trust,\u201d the Healey rep <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boston25news.com\/news\/local\/member-mass-gov-healeys-staff-fired-following-drug-trafficking-arrest\/AFZOWS3MFZHFRLSTOMZPWITJYE\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said in a statement to Boston 25 News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"37524894\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/massachusetts-governor-maura-healey-addresses-110505064.jpg\" alt=\"Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey addressing a crowd during a Labor Day rally.\" class=\"wp-image-37524894\"  \/>Healey\u2019s political opponents seized on the arrest of her aide.  AFP via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Cook has been terminated from his position effective immediately,\u201d the statement continued. \u201cThis criminal investigation is ongoing, and our administration will work with law enforcement to assist them in their work.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Two Republicans challenging Healey for the Massachusetts governorship in 2026 slammed her after the cocaine bust. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHealey has lost control of every aspect of her administration,\u201d Mike Kennealy, a Republican former state official, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MikeKennealy\/status\/1983650193083088951\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote on X<\/a>. \u201cWhen I\u2019m Governor, we\u2019ll clean up the mess that Maura Healey created.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cA top aide to Gov. Maura Healey is a drug trafficker. This is beyond shocking,\u201d Brian Shortsleeve, the former head of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ShortsleeveMA\/status\/1983622161894887745\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote on X<\/a>. \u201cThis is a reflection not just on our governor and her failed leadership and management skills, but on our entire state, and we shouldn\u2019t tolerate it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGov.
