playing at the moment, as he continues to recover from injury.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Days before the Paris Masters began, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/former-grand-slam-finalist-withdraws-from-paris-masters-as-injury-concerns-worsen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tsitsipas withdrew from the tournament<\/a>, having already skipped the China Open, Shanghai Masters, and Vienna Open over recent weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Tsitsipas will fall out of the world\u2019s top 30 as a result, leaving him with work to do if he wants to be seeded at next year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/australian-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Australian Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/stefanos-tsitsipas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tsitsipas<\/a> has been as active as ever on social media, offering up plenty of weird and wonderful inspirational quotes.<\/p>\n<p>Taking a brief break from his philosophical posts, Tsitsipas sent a message to a retiring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/atp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ATP<\/a> star, with whom he played doubles at the Barcelona Open two years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Stefanos Tsitsipas sends message to Nicolas Mahut as he retires from tennis<\/p>\n<p>French doubles legend <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/former-grand-slam-champion-with-unbreakable-tennis-record-retires-at-the-paris-masters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nicolas Mahut retired from tennis<\/a> at the Paris Masters, following his first-round defeat alongside Grigor Dimitrov.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to the news, Tsitsipas took to X to share his thoughts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProud to say I got to play doubles with someone who holds a Career Grand Slam,\u201d said Tsitsipas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHappy retirement and congratulations on a great career, Nicolas Mahut.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mahut won the Career Grand Slam in doubles, winning five majors in of playing doubles with Mahut at the 2023 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/barcelona-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Barcelona Open<\/a>, as the pair took on Matwe Middelkoop and Andreas Mies in round one.<\/p>\n<p>Securing the win in straight sets, 7-6, 6-4, Tsitsipas and Mahut advanced to the second round.<\/p>\n<p>There, they met the number-one seeds, Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski.<\/p>\n<p>Dropping the first set 6-4, Mahut and Tsitsipas bravely fought back to take the second 6-3, as their quarterfinal required a match tiebreak.<\/p>\n<p><img the more experienced team.<\/p>\n<p>Tsitsipas and Mahut also met once in singles on the ATP Tour, in Marseille, seven years ago.<\/p>\n<p>It was Mahut that emerged victorious, edging a tight first-round encounter, 7-6, 7-5.<\/p>\n<p>They also played a year earlier in the third round of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/us-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">US Open<\/a> qualifying, where Mahut picked up the win.<\/p>\n<p>Nicolas Mahut defended Stefanos Tsitsipas at the 2021 US Open<\/p>\n<p>Four years after Mahut and Tsitsipas played for a spot in the US Open main draw, the Greek star defeated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/andy-murray\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Andy Murray<\/a> in round one.<\/p>\n<p>The Brit grew frustrated with Tsitsipas, who took a lengthy bathroom break during the match and called him out for his \u2018nonsense\u2019 behavior.<\/p>\n<p>Coming to Tsitsipas\u2019 defense, Mahut told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lequipe.fr\/Tennis\/Actualites\/Nicolas-mahut-il-faut-arreter-le-tsitsipas-bashing\/1282973\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">L\u2019Equipe<\/a> what he thought about the bathroom break controversy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s clearly excessive. But I don\u2019t think he does it to bother his opponent. It benefits him. He\u2019s a player who sweats a lot, that\u2019s a fact,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI understand the inconvenience it causes players when there\u2019s a break. Are the breaks too long? Yes. Could [Stefanos] Tsitsipas make them shorter? Yes. Does it break the rhythm? Yes. Now, I find the criticism he\u2019s getting unfair.
