When do you get your check?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"position:absolute;top:0;left:0;right:0;bottom:0;width:100%;height:100%;z-index:2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/86689625007-getty-images-2240601343.jpg\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"vidplayicon\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gannett-cdn.com\/appservices\/universal-web\/universal\/icons\/icon-play-alt-white.svg\" alt=\"play\" style=\"height:40px;margin:auto 18px auto 27px;width:40px\"\/><\/p>\n<p>How the government shutdown is affecting Social Security<\/p>\n<p>This is what to know about Social Security payments during the ongoing government shutdown.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2025\/10\/20\/social-security-payments-to-be-sent-oct-22-heres-who-gets-them\/86754170007\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2025\/10\/20\/social-security-payments-to-be-sent-oct-22-heres-who-gets-them\/86754170007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Social Security\u00a0payments<\/a> for the month of November follow a normal schedule, with just two months before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/personalfinance\/2025\/10\/24\/2026-social-security-cola-inflation-increase-medicare\/86794713007\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/personalfinance\/2025\/10\/24\/2026-social-security-cola-inflation-increase-medicare\/86794713007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">the upcoming cost-of-living increase kicks in<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2025\/10\/24\/social-security-shortfall-insolvency-retirement-americans\/86858820007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Social Security<\/a>\u00a0benefits \u2013 paid mostly to recipients who are older or retired \u2013 are typically paid on Wednesdays. If your birthdate falls between the first and 10th days of the month, you are issued payments on the second Wednesday of the month (this month, that&#8217;s Nov. 12), according to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/pubs\/EN-05-10031-2025.pdf?ftag=MSFd61514f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Social Security Administration\u2019s calendar<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Subsequent payments go out weekly with beneficiaries born between the 11th and 20th getting paid on the third Wednesday (Nov. 19), and those born after the 20th of the month on the fourth Wednesday of the month (Nov. 26), according to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/pubs\/EN-05-10031-2025.pdf?ftag=MSFd61514f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">SSA calendar<\/a>. Social Security recipients who began getting benefits before May 1997 are paid on Nov. 3.<\/p>\n<p>Those who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) can expect their Social Security payment on the third day of the month and their SSI payment on the first day of the month \u2013 except when the first of the month lands on a weekend or a holiday, as it does in November (Nov. 1 is a Saturday), then SSI payments go out early (Oct. 31).<\/p>\n<p>Payments will not be affected by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2025\/10\/21\/when-will-government-shutdown-end\/86814877007\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2025\/10\/21\/when-will-government-shutdown-end\/86814877007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">government shutdown<\/a>, and most should be issued electronically since a Sept. 30 deadline has passed for the federal government <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2025\/09\/28\/social-security-paper-checks-deadline\/86369218007\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2025\/09\/28\/social-security-paper-checks-deadline\/86369218007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">to stop issuing paper checks<\/a> \u2013 after an executive order signed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/news\/politics\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">President Donald Trump<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Recipients can also look forward to slightly bigger checks to come. Starting in January, benefits checks will reflect <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/personalfinance\/2025\/10\/24\/2026-social-security-cola-inflation-increase-medicare\/86794713007\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/personalfinance\/2025\/10\/24\/2026-social-security-cola-inflation-increase-medicare\/86794713007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">a 2.8% cost-of-living adjustment<\/a>, or COLA, increase. Payments will rise by about $56, on average, per month, when the COLA kicks in, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.ssa.gov\/social-security-announces-benefit-increase-for-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Social Security Administration said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"related-link\"><strong style=\"margin-right:3px\">Social Security: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/personalfinance\/2025\/10\/24\/2026-social-security-cola-inflation-increase-medicare\/86794713007\/\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Benefit program&#8217;s 2026 COLA is 2.8%, but seniors will still fall into poverty. Here&#8217;s why<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Will Social Security payments be affected by the government shutdown?<\/p>\n<p>No. While thousands\u00a0of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2025\/10\/13\/social-security-payments-offices-government-shutdown\/86668542007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">SSA employees<\/a>\u00a0have been furloughed,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/news\/en\/advocates\/2025-10-01.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Social Security and SSI payments will continue<\/a>\u00a0with no change in payment dates.\u00a0That&#8217;s because\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/2025\/09\/29\/social-security-payment-government-shutdown\/86419409007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">money for the benefit programs is considered mandatory spending\u00a0by law<\/a>, meaning its budget is not\u00a0dependent on yearly congressional approval,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/history\/ssa\/ssa2000chapter1.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">according to the SSA<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/agency\/shutdown\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">other services provided by the SSA<\/a>, such as processing new applications, can be impacted by shutdowns and the resulting lack of workers and movement in government systems.<\/p>\n<p>Full 2025 Social Security payment calendarSocial Security payment schedule for November and the months ahead<\/p>\n<p>The Social Security Administration\u2019s calendar of benefit payments for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/pubs\/EN-05-10031-2025.pdf?ftag=MSFd61514f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">2025<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/pubs\/EN-05-10031-2026.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">2026<\/a>\u00a0is available online, so you can check the schedule for budgeting purposes.<\/p>\n<p>Regular Social Security retirement benefits for November will be sent out on the SSA\u2019s usual schedule:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Wednesday, Nov. 12:<\/strong>\u00a0Birth dates between the first and 10th of the month.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wednesday, <strong>Nov.<\/strong> 19:<\/strong>\u00a0Birth dates between the 11th and 20th of the month.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wednesday, Nov. 26:<\/strong>\u00a0Birth dates between the 21st and 31st of the month.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>SSI payment schedule for November, the rest of 2025, and into 2026<\/p>\n<p>Recipients of\u00a0Supplemental Security Income checks\u00a0are typically issued payments on the first business day of the month. However, since Nov. 1 is a Saturday, those payments will be issued Oct. 31. Children with qualifying disabilities are also eligible, according to the SSA\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/faq.ssa.gov\/en-us\/Topic\/article\/KA-02274\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">website<\/a>.
