{"id":343206,"date":"2025-10-30T13:23:17","date_gmt":"2025-10-30T13:23:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/343206\/"},"modified":"2025-10-30T13:23:17","modified_gmt":"2025-10-30T13:23:17","slug":"raul-sanchez-createsplay-of-contrasts-at-house-in-cala-tamarit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/343206\/","title":{"rendered":"R\u00e1ul S\u00e1nchez creates&#8221;play of contrasts&#8221; at House in Cala Tamarit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Spanish studio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/ras-arquitectura\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">R\u00e1ul S\u00e1nchez Architects<\/a> has taken advantage of a sloping site in Tarragona to create a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/concrete-houses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">concrete home<\/a>\u00a0with a sunken <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/courtyards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">courtyard<\/a>, which opens up into a double-height living area.<\/p>\n<p>Named House in Cala Tamarit, the orthogonal, exposed concrete dwelling was created for two online, remote workers who wanted a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/houses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">home<\/a> that could offer a &#8220;tangible, physical experience&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2263748 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/raul-sanchez-architects-concrete-home-spain_dezeen_2364_col_11-852x788.jpg\" alt=\"Exterior view of House in Cala Tamarit\" width=\"2364\" height=\"2186\"  \/>R\u00e1ul S\u00e1nchez Architects has completed a concrete home in Tarragona<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Precisely because their work is so immaterial, they wanted their future house to be the opposite: material over immaterial, volume and mass over lightness, experience over immediacy,&#8221; explained founder R\u00e1ul S\u00e1nchez.<\/p>\n<p>House in Cala Tamarit was designed by <a href=\"https:\/\/raulsanchezarchitects.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">R\u00e1ul S\u00e1nchez Architects<\/a> to be a &#8220;play of contrasts&#8221;, contained within two blocks topped by a roof terrace and staggered to create external balconies and verandas.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2263735 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/raul-sanchez-architects-concrete-home-spain_dezeen_2364_col_0-852x709.jpg\" alt=\"External patio at Spanish home by R\u00e1ul S\u00e1nchez Architects\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1968\"  \/>It comprises two staggered blocks<\/p>\n<p>The route into the home begins with a concrete stair that descends into the sunken garden courtyard, before opening into an expansive, double-height living space.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The ceremony of descending the steps and losing the view of the environment leads into a very intimate and silent space, with the tinted walls and the sky above,&#8221; said S\u00e1nchez.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2263742 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/raul-sanchez-architects-concrete-home-spain_dezeen_2364_col_5-852x1136.jpg\" alt=\"Living space within the House in Cala Tamarit \" width=\"1773\" height=\"2364\"  \/>The home opens up to a double-height living space<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Then you enter the house and, go through some not-aligned spaces, and get into the double-height living room with such a contrast of openness and height,&#8221; S\u00e1nchez added.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Thus, as is a constant in my work, this house reveals its complexity as you discover \u2013 walk through it, and it has much more to offer than what it seems at first sight.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/10\/03\/extrastudio-casa-plaj-holiday-home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/extrastudio-casa-plaj-holiday-home-portugal-sq_dezeen_2364_col_0-191x191.jpg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"Casa Plaj by Extrastudio\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\"  \/><\/p>\n<p> Extrastudio coats &#8220;radically simple&#8221; holiday home in Portugal with earth-toned plaster\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>House in Cala Tamarit&#8217;s material palette follows this concept of contrasts.
