SAN ANTONIO<\/strong> \u2013 Multiple local and chain restaurants in San Antonio announce closures this year, reflecting industry challenges.<\/p>\n

Local chef Jason Dady operates several area restaurants and closed Jard\u00edn<\/a> at the San Antonio Botanical Garden this summer.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of people look at closing restaurants as a big negative,\u201d Dady said, \u201cand sometimes it can be a positive, or at least I think that\u2019s our approach.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI certainly had restaurants that closed because maybe they weren\u2019t very good or it was a bad location,\u201d Dady continued. \u201cI\u2019ve also had a lot of restaurants that I\u2019ve closed just because we felt that it wasn\u2019t smart for us to continue.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Jason Dady Restaurant Group<\/a> is comprised of five restaurants with catering and events services throughout the San Antonia area. <\/p>\n

Dady told KSAT 12 that each restaurant in the industry that closes has its own personal reasons. <\/p>\n

For example, Good Time Charlie\u2019s Bar and Cafe<\/a>, a community staple for over 45 years, officially closed its doors after the land was sold to the DoSeum next door. <\/p>\n

However, one of the co-founders said the sale had nothing to do with their decision to close.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s really unfair for people to point fingers and say, \u2018Oh, you know, I went there and it was terrible, that\u2019s why they\u2019re out of business,\u2019\u201d Dady said. \u201cYou have no idea why or how they went out of business.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Texas Restaurant Association said the industry is facing a difficult time right now.<\/p>\n

\u201cTexas families are seeing a lot of financial pressure, so they have fewer dollars to spend dining out,\u201d association spokesperson Kelsey Erickson Streufert said.<\/p>\n

San Antonio restaurants that have closed this year<\/a> include Bandit BBQ and Burgers<\/a>, Carriqui<\/a> at the Pearl, Cascabel Mexican Patio<\/a>, Dry Dock Oyster Bar<\/a>, and many more.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just came out of what I believe to be the slowest summer I\u2019ve seen in probably 20 years,\u201d Dady said. \u201cEverybody\u2019s hurting. You\u2019re not alone. Everybody\u2019s restaurants are slower than they were last year.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou just got to buckle down, be smart with every dollar, and take care of the guests,\u201d Dady continued.<\/p>\n

With over 20 years in the industry, Dady has faced almost every challenge a restaurant can see. <\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, 25 restaurants in 25 years, I\u2019ve had great successes and I\u2019ve had failures and I have had the tears,\u201d Dady said. \u201cI have learned more from my closures than I have from my great successes because you learn that that didn\u2019t work or that\u2019s not really working here, but maybe we can use that here.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dady says the key to keeping his restaurants running is genuine hospitality. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe best advice I could ever give is you\u2019ve got to take care of the people that are walking in that door,\u201d Dady said. <\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s why it takes that team mentality of understanding about hospitality, being genuine to who you are, and building that culture is what makes great restaurants. It\u2019s the culture within the walls,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
