PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 The family of a man shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent says they are being kept in the dark about the incident.<\/p>\n
His wife, Anahi, shared her emotional story with Arizona\u2019s Family, explaining her husband was on his way to work near I-17 and Dove Valley Road on Wednesday when the shooting occurred. Now, she\u2019s struggling to get any information from authorities.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe would get home and hug the kids. And to see that he didn\u2019t get here yesterday, it really hurts a lot, because I always wait for him here [at home],\u201d Anahi, a mother of two, tearfully stated during the interview.<\/p>\n
Anahi said her husband, Jose Garcia-Sorto, was shot by an ICE officer Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n
Homeland Security states the incident began when an ICE agent attempted to stop a car in the area. Garcia-Sorto initially stopped his vehicle. Officers report that he then tried to speed away in the direction of an officer. The officer, fearing for his life, fired two shots at the car.<\/p>\n
Anahi was at home when she received a call about the shooting. Her brother, who saw the news, informed her. \u201cIt was my brother. He watched the news and he called me. Because he, (Jose) didn\u2019t make it to work. He told me, watch the news I think immigration shot him,\u201d she recounted.<\/p>\n
Anahi confirmed her husband is okay, but she has been unable to get answers from authorities. \u201cThey (Law enforcement) don\u2019t wanna say anything to me. They\u2019re only saying that he\u2019s in the hospital, but that he\u2019s in there with a different name, and that they don\u2019t want him to talk, and no one can visit him.\u201d<\/p>\n
Anahi acknowledges that she and her husband are in the country illegally. Despite her distress, she shared a message for the ICE agents involved: \u201cWhat they\u2019re (ICE) doing is bad, but I don\u2019t wish anything bad towards them, because I am not God to judge them. I pray for them.\u201d<\/p>\n
Through tears, Anahi also expressed her love for her husband, \u201cI want to tell him that I love him and miss him a lot. His kids miss him too.\u201d<\/p>\n
She added that if her husband is deported, she will return to Honduras with her children.<\/p>\n
Arizona\u2019s Family continues to press Homeland Security for answers and will provide updates as they become available.<\/p>\n
